When all you do are old PS1 games, you start realizing what's actually good back then and what's seen with nostalgic view, and what just doesn't age well. I think what games are lacking the most these days are whimsy. Its own footprint. That being said, even the things that didn't age well or were seen with rose tinted glasses STILL have so much ambition and love put into them. People weren't afraid to go out of their way and make something truly unique and THAT is why they're remembered so fondly. They HAD that whimsy. That fun. ESPECIALLY on things like the PS1 when you had things like the Mascot Wars quietly going on. or loudly. Where everyone was TRYING to be that icon. When you think of things like the PS1, you probably think of Spyro, Crash, Sweet Tooth. etc. Not just one character like Mario, and I think that's one of the reasons back then, things just felt more special and unique. Game devs and companies are forced to play it too safe these days.
