While Rona Wilson and Sudhir Dhawale have been granted bail in Bhima Koregaon case, spare a thought for Mahesh Raut. He was granted bail by Bombay HC in September 2023 but Supreme Court paused his bail pending the appeal. He is in jail for 16 months even after being granted bail.

I took an early morning bus to Mysuru, from Bengaluru. ₹210 fare. Comfortable KSRTC bus and a world class highway for fast travel. But I got a few thoughts. 1) Nearly 30 of the 50 passengers were women. Just show Aadhar and travel free. Is this fair? Is it equality? 2) 20 men are paying for the entire bus. Is that fair? 3) Saw an old man struggling to find notes to pay, while a well off young woman on video call next to him, travels free. Is that fair? 4) If the state is having so much surplus income, why not make it free for these 20 men also? Universal free bus service like airport shuttle service. 5) All over the world, subsidy and welfare is given to those who can't afford. Here, we have women from two rich cities like Bengaluru and Mysuru, traveling free just because it is available. Is it sustainable? 6) Couldn't the same freebie money be used for garbage clearance, pothole fixing in cities, providing water to farmers? Many more thoughts. But realized that we have entered the vicious cycle of freebies for votes. Tough to get out of it in the near future.

For close to a decade that the Indian state held him in inhumane conditions, knowing full well the impact it would have on his health, all while cloaking its cruelty behind the veil of legality and the UAPA—a law that masquerades as national security but functions as a weapon of repression. “Bombay's High Court granted Saibaba bail on medical grounds 14 months after his May 2014 arrest. (He was taken to hospital 27 times during this period, and his left hand became paralyzed.”

It’s outrageous that Missouri is so close to executing Marcellus Williams. He was convicted at a trial where prosecutors intentionally struck at least one Black person from the jury pool. Witnesses were paid to point the finger at Marcellus. His DNA is not on the murder weapon.
