The new digital rules of Nigerian law now have price tags: 1️⃣ Every late e-filing at the Supreme Court (mandatory since 1 July) attracts 10,000 per day 2️⃣ A failed NDPC data audit results to a fine of up to ₦10m or 2% of revenue 3️⃣ A 2-year suspension what two US lawyers got for AI-fabricated citations 4️⃣ NIN now Nigeria’s sole legal ID; 136M+ enrolled 5️⃣ CJN: AI can assist, not replace, judicial reasoning Compliance isn’t a principle now. It’s a line item. #BuildDifferent #NigeriaLaw #AI #Devontechnologies

“Too hard to build locally” is usually just an untested assumption. @terraindustries builds drones & surveillance in Nigeria and won a government contract over foreign firms. They've raised $34M in 2026, alone. What does your industry still import only because no one tried to build it here? #TerraIndustries #NigeriaTech #devontechnologies

This week on Devon's Build Different AI, read for Nigeria: 1️⃣ Nigeria’s courts are going digital. The Chief Justice publicly backed responsible AI in the justice system; the Supreme Court is finalising a National Case Management System, and the Federal High Court says 630 cases have been e-filed since late April. The infrastructure JudicAI is built for is arriving now. 2️⃣ But the rules haven’t caught up. Analysts warn Nigeria’s Evidence Act predates generative AI, so there’s no clear standard for AI-generated evidence. Until that changes, the lawyer who files owns the proof. 3️⃣ Globally, AI copyright is being decided in court. Midjourney is trying to force Disney, Universal and Warner Bros. to disclose their own AI use. If you use generative AI for content, track your inputs and outputs. 4️⃣ Governments are moving to gate the frontier. The White House is finalising voluntary release standards with OpenAI, Google and Anthropic, after export controls hit some models and a major release was delayed. Access is getting less predictable. 5️⃣ Nigeria’s own AI rulebook is coming; A bill to make NITDA a risk-based “super-regulator” over algorithms and AI. Build transparency in now. The throughline: AI governance and access are tightening, at home and abroad. The durable edge for Nigerian lawyers and businesses is owning a compliant, local AI application you can stand behind, not renting a foreign frontier model you can’t guarantee. Devon builds AI for Nigerian reality. JudicAI now supports 62+ courts. Until next week, this is Built Different. 🔥 #BuildDifferent #AI #LegalTech #DevonTechnologies

Fake and overpriced medicine thrives in one place, that is Nigeria’s fragmented drug-distribution chain. @remedial_health digitized that messy middle by verified sourcing, inventory, and financing for 5,000+ pharmacies across 34 states. The result? 🎯$12M Series A; 🎯 @Bloomberg added them to 25-to-Watch 2026. The unglamorous chain everyone skipped was the opportunity they went with. #RemedialHealth #HealthTech #NigeriaTech

"It’s faster if I just do it myself” is how business owners cap their business at the size of one person. In the moment, it’s true. Long-term, it’s a ceiling everything routes through your hands because no one else was allowed to learn. Growth means letting it be done slowly by someone else, until it’s done well without you. Exponential growth means building systems to model your desired results. #NigeriaBusiness #devontechnologies

Opened a second location? A third? You didn’t multiply your control; you multiplied your blind spots. You can only stand in one place at a time. The rest runs on phone calls and hope. #Present puts every branch on one screen: GPS check-ins, live tasks, and real proof. Be in all your locations at once. #Present #DevonTechnologies

In Nigeria, when it comes to security tech, the reflex is to import drones, surveillance, and border systems from foreign contractors. @terraindustries , founded by two Nigerian engineers in 2024, builds them here instead and won a government contract over foreign firms, which led to them raising $34M in 2026. “Too hard to build locally” is usually just an untested assumption. #TerraIndustries #NigeriaTech #DevonTechnologies

BUILD DIFFERENT This week in AI, read for Nigeria: 1. Claude Fable 5: banned June 12, unbanned June 30. Testing proved it was no more dangerous than freely available models. AI capability controls are structurally weak. 2. Claude Sonnet 5 is now the default free model at $2/M tokens. Frontier AI is now accessible to the smallest Nigerian SME. 3. California made AI standard government infrastructure for all state agencies, cities, and counties. Nigerian institutions will follow. 4. Entry-level jobs in AI-exposed careers are shrinking 3.8%/year for ages 22–25. The training-ground problem needs an answer now. 5. Nigeria's Supreme Court launched mandatory e-filing on July 2. Paper filing at the apex court ends in September 2026. Devon has been doing this at the state and magistrate level for 2 years. #BuildDifferent #NigeriaTech #LegalTech #AIWeekly

This week on Build Different, here are the five AI moves that actually matter for Nigerian lawyers and business owners 1️⃣ Nigeria’s NDPC will rewrite the Data Protection Act to name AI directly, keeping human oversight central. The rules for handling Nigerians’ data are about to get more specific. Prepare now. 2️⃣ Anthropic cut off its most powerful models for foreign nationals after a US directive. If your workflow rests on a single US model, you just saw why you need fallbacks and local tooling you control. 3️⃣ A US appeals court sanctioned lawyers for AI-fabricated citations; the lawyer who signs owns the AI’s mistakes. Verify every citation against a real authority before you file. 4️⃣ Alphabet raised ~$80B for AI compute. You won’t win by building base models — you win by owning the local application: courts, contracts, compliance, and payments. 5️⃣ xAI shipped faster AI video even as its tools face a deepfake suit. Use the cheap video; brief your clients on the liability before coming to our courts. Until next Week, stay tuned. #BuildDifferent #AI #LegalTech #DevonTechnologies

Banks saw Nigerian gig drivers as uncreditworthy: no payslip, no collateral, no history. @Moove_HQ scored them on the data that existed, their trips and earnings, and financed the car instead. Uber’s first Africa-founded bet. 76 cars → ~36,000 across six continents. The customers everyone calls “unbankable” might be the whole market. #Moove #NigeriaTech #DevonTechnologies

Your business has "rules": 8 am resumption. Sign the book. Close at 6. They work perfectly on the days you’re in the building. The week you travel, 8 am becomes 8:40, and the book gets signed three days at once. A process you have to be present to enforce isn’t a process. It’s just you. #NigeriaBusiness #DevonTechnologies

To make something affordable in a broken market, you don't just sell it, you build the system that makes it possible. Most Nigerians had no real health insurance. So @reliancegroup built the whole stack: insurance + telemedicine + care. 200,000+ members. $40M Series B led by General Atlantic. #RelianceHealth #HealthTech #NigeriaTech

In Nigeria, the best product often fails to win. The best-distributed product does. Three examples: 1️⃣ The better pharmacist loses to the one with motorcycle delivery 2️⃣ The better software loses to the one that works on every network 3️⃣ The better service loses to the one that answers WhatsApp first Quality gets you in the room. Distribution determines whether you stay. For Nigerian software, distribution is a product design decision, not a sales decision. #NigeriaTech #ProductDesign #DevonTechnologies

Fix the broken process, and justice speeds up. In Nigeria, 90%+ of judges still record court proceedings by hand, so cases crawl for years. @DevonTechio built JudicAI: One-click recording + AI transcription at 95% accuracy. Now live in 62+ courts, it has generated 10,593+ transcripts from 10,717+ court sittings, and 6,806+ cases documented. #JudicAI #LegalTech #NigeriaTech

The most valuable lesson in Nigerian tech: Build for your exact market, not a copy of what works abroad. Global payment tools ignored Nigeria. So @paystack built for how Nigerians actually pay, cards, transfers, USSD. Result? - 60,000+ businesses. - Acquired by Stripe for a reported $200M. If your tools were built for somewhere else, that's your real problem. #Paystack #NigeriaTech #DevonTechnologies

Every Nigerian business that sells to other businesses has the same Friday afternoon. Someone matching bank transfers to invoices, manually. Yele Oyekola built @duplo_ng because this problem was everywhere, and nobody was solving it. 🎯 Automated invoice matching 🎯 Real-time collections and reconciliation 🎯 Built for Nigerian banking infrastructure 🎯 $4.3M seed, Tiger Global · Y Combinator W22 Consumer fintech got the attention. B2B payments was where the operational pain was sitting, quietly, every Friday, in every finance department. #Duplo #NigeriaTech #B2BPayments #DevonTechnologies

BUILD DIFFERENT 🟢 Devon's weekly AI read for Nigerian lawyers and business owners. This week: 1️⃣ @AnthropicAI launched Claude Fable 5, the most powerful AI ever made public. Access is no longer the question. Knowing what to do with it is. 2️⃣ $35B infrastructure platform launched to power AI through 2028. The roads AI will run on are being built right now. 3️⃣ @OpenAI filed for IPO at $850B+ valuation, days after Anthropic did the same. Nigerian lawyers in capital markets and tech need to understand what these companies do. 4️⃣ Miasma worm hit 73 Microsoft repos in 105 seconds, firing through AI coding tools. Your codebase is now an attack surface. 5️⃣ The Pentagon fired Anthropic for being "too safe for war". Who decides what AI is allowed to do in courts, hospitals, and finance? That question has no answer yet in Nigerian law. Build Different — every Friday. #BuildDifferent #NigeriaTech #LegalTech #AIWeekly #DevonTechnologies

The real test of a Nigerian business is not what happens when the founder is in the office. It's what happens the week the founder travels. Some run without missing a beat. Others discover what they called a process was actually just the founder #present, paying attention, catching things before they became problems. One has a system. The other has a person. Only one is scalable. #NigeriaBusiness #DevonTechnologies
