Targeting novel molecular pathways to combat Huntington’s disease 🧠
Researchers have advanced new insights into Huntington’s disease, a progressive neurodegenerative disorder caused by the expansion of polyglutamine repeats in the huntingtin protein.
The disease leads to impaired motor function, cognitive decline, and neuronal loss — and currently has no cure.
Researchers identified a novel molecular pathway that may help suppress Huntington’s disease phenotypes.
Using Drosophila models and mouse neuroblastoma cell lines, they found that PTEN downregulation significantly reduced protein aggregation and apoptosis, leading to notable rescue effects in affected cells.
These findings position PTEN downregulation as a promising potential therapeutic target, opening new avenues for future medical interventions against Huntington’s disease.
