March 13, 1983- The Warner W. Hodgdon Carolina 500 at Rockingham looks to restart a week after rain causes postponement after 143 laps. The preview also notes Dale Earnhardt's plans to fish after falling out of the race, and @DiGardRacing's plans to switch back to Buick.

February 27, 1983- One of my favorite stories to tell. Kyle Petty wrecks the 7-Eleven Pontiac during practice for the Richmond 400. Petty Enterprises gets creative in how they replace the front bumper for the race. Speaks volumes about how far "stock" car racing has evolved.

February 27, 1983- Ricky Rudd and Joe Ruttman took the front row in qualifying for the Richmond 400. Both were looking for their first Cup wins. Rudd led 26 laps but retired with engine failure, finishing 28th. Ruttman led a race high 161 laps but ended up sixth, two laps down.

He's also finished outside the top 20 with cars that could/should have won. Carson has tremendous talent. He needs to learn how to win races instead of throwing them away. Going to take some growing up and maturing behind the wheel. We're pulling for him to get there.

@drizz_81 That's really why we initiated the convo. It's not fair to compare anyone to Earnhardt. Are there certain similarities? Sure. But even journeyman drivers like Dick May had those similarities too. Let Carson develop. He needs to mature and grow. Maybe he'll get there.

@DiGardRacing That’s the last 6 championships by the way. Will say I think Hocevar will be in that convo some day but the Earnhardt legacy is truly legendary. Hard to live up to. It’s not fair to him.

He'll continue to get heat as long as "go for it" keeps resulting in wrecked racecars and his own cars capable of winning heading back to the garage area instead of victory lane.

@DiGardRacing Dale didn’t sit the world on fire with RC the first time either, a lot of people forget that part. The hurricane will be fine. I love the “ go for it “ attitude. I’m becoming a bigger fan every day.

You had to get your car to the finish then. You also had to beat numerous Hall of Fame members, literally ten winningest drivers in history. Carson will be here a long time, but the "Carson is just like Dale was" talk is nonsense.

It's been 25 years since Dale died, and there are few left who saw him actually race in real time. No one who saw him race would make this particular comparison.

There were several times he went overboard. 1986 Richmond. 1987 Bristol. 1999 Bristol. But he won races when he had the opportunity to win. Carson needs to learn how to close the deal.
