This year, FIGO Fistula Surgery Training Initiative (FSTI) celebrates a powerful milestone: 25,000 obstetric fistula repairs performed by a remarkable network of FIGO Fellows. That is not just 25,000 surgeries, it is thousands of women and girls who have been given the chance to heal, many of whom have been reunited with their families and community, less stigmatised, shamed and isolated, ready to start the next chapter.

On #BBCQT - Fiona Bruce said that the audience and public didn't want to press Reform UK on their dodgy links to Russia.
I disagree.
RT if you agree it's in the public interest for Reform to explain about their links to Russian money and bribery!

The NHS is not a good employer. Fear, bullying, cover ups and scapegoating abound.
Not only do we not have enough midwives, many leave shortly after qualification because the working conditions are so stressful and they feel unsupported.
Many trusts are also very short of obstetricians, particularly on call.
In such an unsafe and unsustainable atmosphere, unsurprisingly there are often tribal disputes between different professional groups, particularly over managing risk, and what is acceptable.
Parents often feel excluded from decisions made about them, and their baby. And they do not feel listened to when they raise concerns.
In his book Zero, @Jeremy_Hunt estimated that 1000 more babies would be alive each year if we had the same maternity and neonatal outcomes as Sweden
Black women are 2.8 times more likely to die in childbirth than White women, and Black & Asian babies face over 50% higher risk of dying as newborns.
None of this is new, multiple maternity inquiries have already found this. But until we can make the NHS a great place to work, and give birth in, with decent wages and a well-staffed and clean environment, it isn’t going to change quickly.

BBC News - National NHS maternity care investigation launched bbc.com/news/articles/… A huge and historic day for UK Maternity Care. Great credit must go out to those who have campaigned for a National Maternity Investigation, partic scores of grieving and bereaved parents.
