Australia just recorded zero cervical cancer cases in women under 25 - for the first time since records began in 1982. This is what happens when a country commits to HPV vaccination and screening. We protect our girls and save lives.

This year, FIGO Fistula Surgery Training Initiative (FSTI) celebrates a powerful milestone: 25,000 obstetric fistula repairs performed by a remarkable network of FIGO Fellows. That is not just 25,000 surgeries, it is thousands of women and girls who have been given the chance to heal, many of whom have been reunited with their families and community, less stigmatised, shamed and isolated, ready to start the next chapter. Read the full article here: figo.org/news/milestone…

On #BBCQT - Fiona Bruce said that the audience and public didn't want to press Reform UK on their dodgy links to Russia. I disagree. RT if you agree it's in the public interest for Reform to explain about their links to Russian money and bribery!

Ever since I finished Question Time, Reform have massively been on the attack. Including a rant from Richard Tice entirely designed to distract from Reform and Russia. Everyone should know about Nathan Gill, the bribes from Russia and the link to Reform.

The NHS is not a good employer. Fear, bullying, cover ups and scapegoating abound. Not only do we not have enough midwives, many leave shortly after qualification because the working conditions are so stressful and they feel unsupported. Many trusts are also very short of obstetricians, particularly on call. In such an unsafe and unsustainable atmosphere, unsurprisingly there are often tribal disputes between different professional groups, particularly over managing risk, and what is acceptable. Parents often feel excluded from decisions made about them, and their baby. And they do not feel listened to when they raise concerns. In his book Zero, @Jeremy_Hunt estimated that 1000 more babies would be alive each year if we had the same maternity and neonatal outcomes as Sweden Black women are 2.8 times more likely to die in childbirth than White women, and Black & Asian babies face over 50% higher risk of dying as newborns. None of this is new, multiple maternity inquiries have already found this. But until we can make the NHS a great place to work, and give birth in, with decent wages and a well-staffed and clean environment, it isn’t going to change quickly.
Martyn Pitman@MartynPitman

BBC News - National NHS maternity care investigation launched bbc.com/news/articles/… A huge and historic day for UK Maternity Care. Great credit must go out to those who have campaigned for a National Maternity Investigation, partic scores of grieving and bereaved parents.

There have been of millions of dollars spent on the fetal pillow to date. Has the money been wasted on an ineffective device, patients been harmed, or a useful invention been underused? Well-designed clinical trials are greatly needed!

Fetal pillow in clinical practice without reliable evidence - a perfect storm of clinical need, enthusiasm for new technology, lax regulatory oversight, successful marketing & poor evidence synthesis.

I'm sorry but I am deeply skeptical that a guy who planned out an audacious killing to the second, wearing imperceptible clothing, was caught at a McDonald's with a manifesto and the same fake ID he used at a hostel. Come onnnn.

Does anyone have any experience with the IUD coil? Had a consultation for suspected endometriosis today and the doctor has suggested the coil as a possible treatment but I’ve heard horror stories about it 🙈

Sometimes pregnant women need medical care UNRELATED to their pregnancy, and everyone just needs to calm down about it and take care of them. So many unnecessary delays of care because people lose their minds when they hear a person is pregnant.
