How I got 400+ students to register for my design bootcamp @DezinDesign
There's a principle called the law of reciprocity.
When someone gives you something valuable, you naturally feel obligated to give back. It's why birthday gifts lead to return favors. Why small acts of kindness compound.
I used this principle to build my personal brand.
Here's what I did:
I gave away value relentlessly. Case studies. Design insights. Free resources. Honest advice on positioning, AI tools, career growth. On LinkedIn, on X, everywhere.
For months, I didn't ask for anything. I just gave.
Then I launched Dezin.
When it came time to ask people to pay for a premium product, something remarkable happened. They didn't hesitate.
Why? Because they'd already experienced my value. They trusted me. They'd seen my thinking. They knew what they were getting.
The reciprocity kicked in.
They felt obligated, not in a negative way, but genuinely, to invest in learning more from someone who'd already given them so much.
Here's what I see others do wrong:
People want to write a book. Start a course. Launch a product. But they have zero track record of giving value.
They expect people to pay for something from someone they don't know and don't trust.
It won't scale.
The formula is simple:
Build your credibility by giving first. Establish trust through consistent value. Then monetize that trust with premium offerings.
The 300+ registrations didn't happen because I have a great course. They happened because I spent months proving I could be trusted.
Give first. Build trust. Then ask.
That's how you actually scale.

How many times do you have to take 20 - 40 minutes to decide what to eat? Decision fatigue after a long day of work is something we'd all rather skip. Yesterday i spent 30 minutes outside before giving up and calling a friend to make some reccomendations, this can't only be me😮💨
