I keep seeing people be so negative about this game key card situation but for all the wrong reasons. ​Gonna get major hate for this truth, but Game Key Cards > Steam. Think about it: you can actually resell or lend them, get physical box art, and play 100% offline without Steam's constant DRM checks. The cartridge IS the license. As long as you have it, you can play. ​ Leaving PlayStation because you hate all-digital just to move to PC is completely counterproductive. Steam is the reason Sony/Xbox feel confident going full digital—they want that same storefront control because PC players accepted losing physical years ago for cheap sales. Also, "if Game Key Card servers stop, you can't play" is a myth. Whenever the Servers shutdown in 15-20+ years it will mean nothing for offline play unless you delete your game data. Also, Nintendo kept Wii redownloads active for 20 YEARS because server upkeep is pennies to them. So even then, you won't have to worry about server shutdown for a long time! Within that time, as long as you download the game once, keep it on an SD card and keep the GKC, you'll be golden! Just don't delete it whenever the servers are shut down. If you go the SD card route, you'll essentially have a physical copy of the game but with an unfortunate extra step. Any game that uses DRM on Steam has zero hope of being playable if Steam's servers ever turn off. 🤷🏾‍♂️ So, to me, Game Key Cards win. The big negatives are that: 1. Because it's not on the cartridge, we have to use extra storage means or store the game data 2. If someone were to purchase the game, sealed after the servers close down in the next 2 decades, they wouldn't be able to download the game and okay it. However, both of these things are sh as red with exclusively digital games as well, including the ones on Steam🤷🏾‍♂️
