"To recap, we're not invited to Liz Truss's conference, but Tommy Robinson might be." A sad day for The News Agents, as Liz Truss confirms we're "probably" not invited to her 'Make England Great Again' conference this summer. Shame. @maitlis | @jonsopel | @lewis_goodall

@SuellaBraverman “Betray the 17.4million…” Ten years ago you were a Tory. You’ve since completely changed your allegiance. Don’t you think a sizeable proportion of that 17.4 million have changed their minds as well? Polls suggest they have or do you only believe polls that agree with you?

The ‘emergency brake’ didn’t convince the British people in 2016. It won’t pass muster in 2026. But of course, that won’t bother Starmer who just wants to undo Brexit, betray the 17.4 million and rejoin the EU as quickly as possible.

🇬🇧🇪🇺 In an attempt to break a deadlock in talks over the youth mobility scheme, the EU has now proposed an “emergency brake” if the numbers coming to Britain are too high. 🔗: telegraph.co.uk/politics/2026/…

@SuellaBraverman So what exactly will that look like. You've said what it doesn't or shouldn't look like, in your opinion. What will we see in classrooms in the next few years if Reform gain power?

Too many schools, supported by their local councils, are teaching a politicised curriculum. We need to end political indoctrination in schools. Vote Reform to restore common sense and patriotism to the classroom.

Liz Truss told CPAC she doesn’t know which “side” Keir Starmer is on. She’s also said that Britain has been taken over by globalists and Islamists and appeared at an event called “Europestan: can Europe survive?” She didn’t want to justify her words when we ran into her.
The News Agents@TheNewsAgents

“That famous ideological warrior, once again, deciding she doesn’t want to talk to anyone who disagrees with her”. @lewis_goodall asks Liz truss why she’s “slagging off Britain” in Trump’s America, as she takes to the stage to warn the US about the rise of islamism in the UK.

@IsabelOakeshott Can't believe I actually agree with you about something. PMQs has been a waste of time for years, going back Boris at least. The PM would not get away with answering the way he does to a Select Committee or questions posed directly by members of the public. Surely, the way to go?

@danny__kruger @MartinDaubney The last census showed less than half of the population now see themselves as Christian. Don't see how we can claim to be a Christian country now.

Nick Timothy and Nigel Farage are right, and Sadiq Khan and Keir Starmer are wrong. Small groups of people, of whatever religion, praying in public places is fine. And as a Christian country we should allow a special privilege for churches to lead services in our national spaces, like the Palm Sunday celebration that happens in Trafalgar Square. What we don't want is mass ritual observances intended to claim the civic realm for another religion, or assert the domination of another culture over our own Christian traditions. What happens in our national spaces is not neutral. People use Trafalgar Square, for celebrations and demonstrations, to make a point about the kind of country they want us to be. The Palm Sunday pageant reminds us of who we are - not as individuals (many or most of us don't identify as Christians at all) but as a national community, with the roots of our institutions in the ground of the Bible and our most solemn communal moments, from coronations to funerals, mediated through the liturgies of the Church. A mass Adhan held there, or in any town square, is making a different point: that Britain is not a Christian country, and that - inshallah - one day it shall be Muslim. This is unacceptable to the British public and indeed incompatible with our constitution. As ever with these debates, the issue is partly one of kind and partly one of degree. There is an issue with Islam itself as a religion which in most interpretations does not admit of pluralism or freedom of conscience, and therefore is inherently aggrandising, including over territory. But with a bit of confidence and a bit of toleration we could handle that - if it were not for the issue of degree. It is the scale of Islam in Britain, and the ambition of its leaders for greater scale, that makes the problem. The numbers of people who assembled for the adhan in Trafalgar Square, clearly and openly claiming the territory for a faith with no connection (indeed, with strong doctrinal disagreement) with the model of Western liberal democracy that Britain has developed and exported to the world - that is the problem. The numbers, whether everyone there understood it this way or not (and I suspect many did), convey an explicit threat to the foundations of our country. Being relaxed about other people's religion is a good thing, a very British thing. I don't mind modern druids dancing around Stonehenge in my constituency (arguably, though the historicity is tenuous, they have a claim to the place). I don't mind small groups of Hindus or Buddhists or Muslims demonstrating the reality of Britain's religious toleration by worshiping in Trafalgar Square. But let's not kid ourselves about this adhan, or pretend that we're just seeing another harmless expression of Britain's religious diversity. We are seeing an abuse of liberalism, led by people who are not themselves liberal; or - let us imagine they are acting in good faith - who are themselves deceived about what they are doing. It should not happen again. And it would be good to hear the Church of England say so.

@Nigel_Farage @SuellaBraverman @SuellaBraverman In what possible way does a one-off religious act in London illustrate “a group of people attempting dominance over our capital city & culture.” PSG fans took over Trafalgar Square on Tuesday. Does that mean the French want to re-enact 1066? You just hate Muslims

What we witnessed in London at the historic Trafalgar Square, in a country built on Judeo-Christian values, was a group of people attempting dominance over our capital city and our culture. We are not going to surrender everything that was built over centuries and defended at great cost in two world wars for us to be a free, independent nation. The British people will not put up with this any longer — simple as.
