@DigbyTW I don’t think it should be a death penalty either but ultimately for Kirk the chickens came home to roost and I refuse to grant him the sympathy he denied others. I also feel that this in a just world would receive a fraction of the media coverage it’s getting

Cripes. This is the 4th (?) politician I can think of who has been murdered over their political views in the last 5 years across the UK and USA. Say what you want about the man's politics and his approach to gun control, but political violence shouldn't ever be a goto solution.

@jwm031103 It shouldn't be a death penalty offence to be a terrible human being. That's what separates democracies from autocracies - it's not illegal to be wrong or a weapons-grade bellend. Kirk was a hateful human being, but that in itself doesn't warrant the death penalty.

@ratwithglock Even if an opinion is catastrophically hateful or backwards like this one you can't just go around dealing death for expousing a view. People are allowed to be wrong and being able to have these discussions, to challenge these views, is a foundational principle of democracy.

@ratwithglock Nice strawman, but not the case. Hitler, if he had survived the war and not shot himself, would have been hung following a trial. Kirk didn't get that. He got randomly shot. Say what you like about his politics - but murder as a solution ain't it.
