I don't understand why everyone dreads long flights so much. I feel like I change the trajectory of my life every time I take a 20-hour flight across the world. I sit on my computer, listen to podcasts, write, work, introspect, and plan my next season of life (usually fueled by a fair amount of caffeine). By the end of it, I've produced a bunch of content, clarified my vision, and know the exact moves that will get me to the next level. Looking back, long flights often end up being the most transformational days of my year. I look forward to them every time I go traveling for this reason.

Open Source's big problem. Last night I went to a Y Combinator party in San Francisco and met an entrepreneur who is making a top Open Source AI model. He told me it is very hard to make money in open source. Yeah, it is cool being popular, he told me, but figuring out how to make a business out of it is proving to be very difficult. The Chinese are pounding the price into the ground with their open source models. Which makes it tough. In the old world of Open Source you could make money with them by consulting, service, etc, like RedHat did. But in this new world, he told me, it's much harder to make a good business out of it. Is anyone making a good business out of open source? What would your advice be to the businesses that are trying to support Open Source?

The Apple fans are regurgitating a @markgurman report that Apple has given up on Apple Vision Pro. What am I hearing? Scuba masks are too hard to sell. Glasses are the future. Should I show you my @getVITURE ones to emphasize that point? Immersion suffers yes. The screens inside my Viture Beast that just started shipping on Monday (under $1,000) have 60-degree field of view (4x bigger than average laptop) where Apple Vision Pro has 90. And there are other VR headsets with far more like what @SomniumSpace makes. But the smaller, lighter, cheaper form factor is far more acceptable to most consumers. It is way better than watching a movie in the screens in planes. Me included. Meta led the way. Its audio and camera Raybans are what people are buying. Scuba masks are too hard to sell to most consumers. Glasses with great displays are coming but are also too expensive right now. So the Holodeck glasses of my dreams will remain niche focused for a few years. The weight of the Vision Pro is what bugs me. The Vitures are already getting a lot more use in my life. Apple knows this.

Honestly the whole Apple tech blogs/media sphere is basically just vagueposting and rehashing Mark Gurman’s articles, and then it all gets translated and repackaged across local Apple blogs. Can’t wait for WWDC so they can invent a whole new set of headlines to contradict their own stories.

@DigitalColmer Excited to see tools for non engineers, curious how natural language prompts map to robust workflows in real projects?
