Who remembers Skye, the giant manta ray? A few years ago, we teamed up with The Florida Manta Project/@MarineMegafauna & @DigitalLife3D. This innovative collaboration resulted in an amazing & incredibly accurate 3D model of an 8-foot juvenile manta ray: hubs.ly/Q03BbD880

Based on encouraging signs from @EpicGames about not removing open-access content, we are re-enabling our @Sketchfab Digital Life Site for free downloads. We will keep working on an alternative if the open-access content is disallowed, but we are hoping for a positive outcome 🙂

We revived an extinct species, virtually! Excited to show our animated 3D model of an Imperial Woodpecker w/ @DigitalLife3D. Once the largest woodpecker in the world, the species went extinct due to human persecution. Check out the models & read about it: moorelab.oxy.edu/research/woodp…

Happy to share that our work will still be available for download & education. Will desperately miss Sketchfab, but the digital animals will live on.

In anticipation of @Sketchfab removing #openaccess content, we are removing download options on our 3D models & migrating our content to digitallife3d.org & morphosource.org. Please visit those websites if you want to download our 3D animals.

@Ninjemys @duncanirschick @Sketchfab I suspect that Epic games will find out the hard way that these marketplaces won't earn much money or interest. The cultural and non-profit element brought a ton of eyes to that website - now that will be gone, and the remaining content typically does not have a lot of value

@DigitalLife3D @duncanirschick @Sketchfab Oof, that's what I was afraid of.

It now appears that with the transition to Fab, @sketchfab will no longer be available as a home for our non-profit 3D @DigitalLife3D content. This is a pity, as it has served as a good home for our 3D non-profit work. We will have to find another way to distribute this content
