we talk about the positive masculinity in tolkien, but it goes beyond the male mcs showing emotion without judgement. you can trust the good guys to be honourable; they are decent to their core. 99% of the men in the universe are safe to trust. that is huge. that is beautiful.

More in general, most words composed with the prefix "un-" (uneasy, unawares, and, of course, unexpected) provide a great entry point to the mind, the social relations and the material world of Mr. Baggins as they gradually evolve and change across the novel

For a class, in which I am introducing Stockwell and @MichaMahlberg's great work on characterization doi.org/10.1177/096394…, I was looking for more examples. The patterns of "uncomfortable" in "The Hobbit" are just brillant! @DigitalTolkien

The scripting process for my “In Defense of Rings of Power, Part 2” YouTube video has been going smoothly, but I hit a point in the script where I wanted to highlight positive, critically engaged Tolkien creators. I have a handful but I’m curious what everyone’s favorites are?

I did not realize all four sets of this new History of Middle-earth collection had been released! I had purchased the first set earlier this year but haven’t opened it yet. Just ordered the other three sets and will put together a review if anyone is interested!
