My FIRST ever first-author paper is now out as a preprint on @medrxivpreprint! Using spectral parameterization (@tomdonoghue), we have identified a potential neural mechanism behind ECT, one of the most efficacious treatments for depression. doi.org/10.1101/2022.0… A thread:

So grateful that you highlighted this! My whole cohort is full of super stars who made it through to the other side (!!), if only we had some way to recognize that as well. Thank you so much for your support, and can't wait to show off our pilot work at CNS soon 🤓🥳🎉

I’d be as impressed with @elkosik and @DillanCellier even without NSF approval -- and their whole cohort deserves an award, for starting grad school ~in a freaking pandemic~ But when your first student gets a win like this, even the snarkiest heart bursts with pride

In my latest act as an over-eager new(ish) PI...I may have ordered more custom mugs than are strictly necessary to support 3 lab members

Check out lab grad student @DillanCellier's beautiful new developmental EEG paper, from her prior work with @kaihwang12 and @justinmriddle. She has no idea how overjoyed I am to discover that I snagged a student who makes good figures.

🥳First first-author paper on the books! @kaihwang12 @justinmriddle We looked at age-related changes in alpha & theta oscillatory peaks to see if traditional ideas about a developmental theta-alpha trade off stood the test of *aperiodic correction* sciencedirect.com/science/articl… (1/8)

And last but not least: age-related shifts in theta topography! While younger participants showed peak theta power in posterior electrodes, older participants had greater theta peak power in anterior electrodes. Does this point to the emergence of an adult midfrontal theta? (8/8)

We did not find that periodic power significantly differed across age for either theta or alpha oscillations. This demonstrates the importance of looking at peak frequency in addition to power (7/8)

My first review paper is out at Brain Research! We explore the new research that views neural oscillations as non-sinusoidal and burst-events and how to use tACS to test for their causal role in cognition. With @FlavioFrohlich sciencedirect.com/science/articl…
