Look at Arab monarchies. They host American bases for protection. Now, they have to protect the bases. Their energy infrastructure came under attack--some of them would take months, if not years, to recover. They are not able to export oil and gas freely because of the restrictions Iran has placed on the Strait of Hormuz. Trump is now asking allies to buy oil from America or go to the Strait themselves--practically abandoning any responsibility for the closure of the waterway. Both options will have lasting implications for Gulf economies. Not just that. Per White House, Trump even wants to ask Gulf countries to help pay for the war that caused all these. And what, they might even pay!!
