Would anyone in collegiate esports be interested in a The Finals tournament? Strictly for fun and bragging rights unless we see some crazy support. I’d run and stream it as often as I can and run it in a series of heats over 6 weeks.

@Dizzayee As part of OC's interim staff during this significant transition in leadership, I was never contacted regarding a request for information from the appeals committee. Not sure where things got tied up, but wish communication had been clearer for such an impactful decision

Due to the nature of misinformation being spread around this case - I'd like to provide some additional detail. First, I'd like to clarify that no representatives from St. Clair were involved in this process, from the Competition Council, to the Board of Directors, and to the Appeals Committee. We require any leadership members to recuse themselves of meetings that involve any potential conflict of interest, and that holds true with this case. On 11/24/2024, OCU & St. Clair played in our Fall 2024 Grand Finals. 2 maps into the match, it was flagged by tournament officials that a OCU player was playing on an alternate account, which is a violation of our rules & an infraction. These violations are taken seriously, as under no circumstance do we support ban evasions, as this is clearly outlined in our license agreements with publishers. After initiating an investigation, an additional violation occurred when an OCU player lied to tournament officials about the status of their teammate's account, which later was discovered to be banned. Due to the time sensitivity of this discovery, an investigation was opened to address both violations with our Competition Council the following Tuesday (2 days later). Tournament officials made an initial ruling to rule the player ineligible for the remainder of the match, require OCU's sub to play, and forfeited the first two maps in favor of St. Clair. The teams were informed to play out the remainder of the match, and OCU's program leadership was immediately informed that an investigation had been opened to determine if there would be additional sanctions in relation to the competition violations. On 11/26/2024, the Competition Council reviewed the evidence in relation to the violations, and voted to continue the investigation & collect more information related to confirming if the ban was legitimate or false. After collecting evidence from OCU, it was determined that it was more likely than not that the ban was false, and no additional sanctions were pursued in relation to ban evading. After finishing their investigation surrounding the ban evasion, the Competition Council made a ruling on 12/3/2024 focused on the infractions of playing on an alternate account, and being dishonest with tournament officials. As outlined in the NACE Competition Code of Conduct, this was determined to be a Level 2 Violation (see photo) as the conduct was deemed as "Inappropriate behavior or communication...", resulting in the overturning of the match. OCU's program leadership was notified of the ruling, and submitted a formal appeal on January 8th, 2025. This appeal goes to our Board of Directors, in which they voted to form an Appeals Committee which consists of member school program representatives that once again have no connection with either school, to review the Level 2 Violation. After the formation of the Appeals Committee, and their initial review of the provided evidence, the Appeals Committee contacted the new interim leadership at OCU in February and March via email, with no response. The Appeals Committee met 3 times, and due to the lack of responsiveness & no additional evidence provided by OCU, the Appeals Committee voted to uphold the original ruling of a Level 2 Violation by the Competition Council, resulting in the overturning of the Fall 2024 Grand Finals. 20-30 member school representatives were involved in this process, including our home office staff, to reach consensus on this final ruling.

I understand that goals are different between players and programs especially with the clout that comes from a national title. But lets try to remind ourselves of what we're here for. It's not a battle of collegiate vs pro. It's a conversation about what matters most for students

Players over pedestals. Throughout my five years of collegiate esports experience, my mindset has always been set on my players & what is best for them as people and as athletes. The purpose of college is to prepare students for their futures. Why should esports be so different?
