The Seven Cabins Fire in New Mexico is now estimated at 2,645+ acres after a significant increase in Fire activity.
Southwest CIMT 1 is now in command of the fire, and the Southwest Region has moved to a preparedness level 3.

New Mexico: The Seven Cabins Fire has drastically increased in activity. The wildfire is located 7 miles southeast of Encinoso, or 25 miles northeast of Ruidoso, moving rapidly to the north-northeast. The evacuation area includes NM Highway 246 on the north side of the Capitan Mountains eastward to Boy Scout Mountain Road. Last updated at 889 acres, there are now 5-6 Hotshot crews assigned to the incident. Thanks to the subscriber who shared this view of the fire.

@lorigracewx I had got some "storm spotter" decals for my vehicles after I took the class but then saw a whole thread here about how lame it is to have those and so they're just in a drawer. I was really only thinking about identifying why I might be stopped on the side of the road.

I think that most people overwhelmingly chase as incognito as possible according to the responses. Or the ones with decals, lights, signs and wraps are reluctant to chime in. Just be safe, courteous and friendly on the road. There is enough space on the road for everyone.

What kind of chaser are you? Neither choice is wrong, you do you. Load up the car with decals, computers, gadgets and gear? Or play it low key, unmarked and unidentifiable?

I was out being social with old & new friends last night and didn't once look at my phone, let alone check in on the weather. Kinda sad I missed watching it live. Oh well. I'll wait for the YT videos. In other news, I recruited the business partner I was hoping would say yes 😁

@oldscarf1stweek I'd never try to chase full time. I considered it, once, then realized it was not feasible. But when my houseplant empire takes off, say maybe 2-3 years from now, I'll be out as much as possible. What people need most is patience. Jumping in headfirst rarely works out.

Some notable people last 2 years said they were quitting their full time jobs to chase storms and build a weather brand or be a weather influencer. All of them are still working those same jobs.
Only a small, talented group of streamers YouTubers and chasers has actually figured out how to make it sustainable, and thinking it it’s “easy money” is just not grounded in reality.

@star1ightstan13 People are too simple minded in like flat plains are boring and ugly when they aren't and all they want to see is mountains. While that's beautiful yes but there's a charm of the plains that once you know it, you get it!

@nathan_moreau Absolutely. I work in healthcare. I'm beyond burned out. I'm making plans to start my own business but realistically I'm looking at a year + before it could be profitable enough to go full time (mostly to afford health insurance). But I absolutely cannot keep going like this.

It’s been hitting me this last week how burnt out I am.
I just feel like our society doesn’t allow us to heal and recover. It’s just a constant state of chasing a middle ground of feeling rested and ready to go.

Didn't chase today. Stayed home and planted the six free trees we got from the Keep #Roswell beautiful Arbor Day seedling giveaway, and then removed the old wooden base of our previous (destroyed by wind) shed in our backyard. Tomorrow, more painting.

Idk how the Texas side of the Pecos River does so fine with storms but once you pass the Seven Rivers hills area on US 285 and it just sucks.
Like I don't get it even Carlsbad has it better. Micro climate ? Maybe
