To those still complaining that Andy Burnham is Prime Minister and Labour are in power, nobody is asking you to like it. You are perfectly entitled to remain permanently outraged by reality.
The fact remains that Labour are likely to govern until at least 2029, and perhaps beyond. Endless indignation will not alter that.
I am a pragmatist. It is country before party.
Some people seem rather more interested in sustaining their outrage than in considering whether this government might actually achieve anything worthwhile. Labour may be deeply flawed. Burnham may get plenty wrong. Much of his politics does not align with mine.
But he has barely begun the job.
I would rather judge him by what he actually does than spend the next few years howling uselessly at a reality none of us can change. He may fail spectacularly. Equally, he may surprise us and improve the country.
Time will tell.

@Gabriel_Pogrund No one cares! Nigel could be in prison and he'd still be voted PM, purely because Liebour and Tories had their time, they didn't do what the British people want, therefore time for someone else!

EXCLUSIVE
Nigel Farage struck secret deal for return as Reform leader months before election — challenging claim he wasn't involved in politics so didn't need to report gifts.
In May 24 he showed deal to treasurer, who tonight acknowledged its existence thetimes.com/uk/politics/ar…

@BoveFromAbove By elections aren't worth the bother. The GE is a different matter!
English

So if Reform are going to form the next government, how come they keep losing by-elections?

@Jenny_1884 Ah but we didn't know we were going to be born and I don't think I'd like to know the day of my demise ( unless someone was going to to take my life and then I would ensure I wouldn't be in that area)
English

@anthonyfdshaw If it's empty, how are they holding up others? 🤔
English

@Ed_Miliband No it reminds us that human beings are stupid, they leave behind hot single use bbqs, glass, set off fireworks when the grass is dry and some purposely set fire to the grass knowing it would spread! A blade of grass or a tree does not spontaneously combust, it needs human help!
English

@LoinDuTribu So what you are actually saying is that the loony unions, have taken over the asylum, totally ignoring the protected rights of everyone under the guise of a trans protected right, which without them taking a certain amount of tablets they wouldn't be able to role play?
English

Right. This is important, and I need every “gender-critical” man, woman, mineral and vegetable to pay attention, unless you possess significant financial independence or happen to be a billionaire.
If you start spouting shit like this at work, you WILL get fired.
No enchanted legal cavalry is coming over the hill to rescue you. An employment tribunal will examine what you actually said, where you said it, who heard it and how your conduct affected colleagues and service users.
“But J.K. Rowling says it” is not a protected philosophical argument. It is the workplace equivalent of producing a mouldy wizard card as evidence.
Rowling can broadcast this filth because nobody can sack her.
Even if her publisher dropped her tomorrow, Hollywood stopped answering the telephone and every licensing executive fled screaming into the sea, she would never need to earn another penny. Her children are grown or nearly grown. They have lives of their own. Their mother happens to possess more money than Croesus with a merchandise department.
The principal damage Rowling can inflict upon herself is reputational.
You do not possess that protection.
You have rent. A mortgage. Children. Energy bills. Car payments. A manager called Steve who already thinks you spend too long smoking behind the bins. You may depend upon references, professional registration or the goodwill of colleagues who do not want to hear you describing trans parents as sexual predators over a tuna sandwich.
Rowling can spend every morning firing radioactive obscenities from the battlements because the castle is already paid for.
You can lose your livelihood before lunch.
I consider anti-trans politics inherently toxic. I also have no desire to see ordinary people become unemployed, impoverished or unable to support their families because an enormously wealthy celebrity persuaded them that screaming her latest fixation in the canteen constituted heroic dissent.
Imagine that. A dreaded “TRA” advising people not to ruin their lives.
So, for the love of whichever god, goddess or sentient woodland fungus you recognise, do not repeat this shit at work.
Do not say it in the canteen.
Do not say it on your fag break.
Do not put it in the staff WhatsApp.
Joanne can afford the consequences of behaving like Joanne.
You cannot.
J.K. Rowling@jk_rowling
Doubtless the Scottish government will tell us that if we think men full of cross sex hormones who get a thrill out of babies latching on to their chemically enhanced chests is blatant child abuse, you are a transphobe.
English

@bphillipsonMP Liebour says Reform is upto their neck in scandal 😂😂😂😂 have you not cottoned on yet? Nigel Farage could be in prison and he'd still be a better option for the British public than any of you fecking idiots!
English

@BasilTheGreat Can't wait to see what they do do Polanski then!
English

Helen Joyce has no expertise or qualifications in trans issues.
She has a bigoted opinion, don't confuse that for anything else.

Horatio Nelson@HoratioNelson0
Only Allison Morris would have the ego and arrogance to think she can hang in a debate with @HJoyceGender on sex and trans issues. It would be like Ainsley Harriott debating Brian Cox on particle physics.
English

@TheNewsAgents @jonsopel @lewis_goodall So people who tweet hurty words have been locked up for many years, what makes polanski any different? He posted something that is an incitement to kill! The hypocrisy is Polanski is still free!
English

“Reform repeatedly say we are a police state... Now they expect Zack Polanski to be arrested.”
“It’s one or the other, lads!”
Is there a hypocrisy in how Reform deals with free speech, and incitement to violence, when it is directed at them?
@jonsopel | @lewis_goodall
English

@DaleVince Blah blah blah, just wondering how much of taxpayers money are you getting?
English

Interesting polling, people in Clacton see through Farage - "how many houses does he have? He’s part of the establishment. He does the bare minimum as an MP, he’s using us”. And the £5m to "spend on Ferraris if he likes" - makes him look out of touch. As news emerges of yet another breach of the rules - which Farage views as weapons used against him..:). I’m looking forward to Bin Day in Clacton.

@LukeAlsford Good, maybe they can get on with the problems to hand, like men pushing the narrative they are women!
English

EXCLUSIVE: Powerful Labour unions will boycott the party’s women’s conference this year in protest at the ban on trans women.
Unison, Aslef, Usdaw and the Musicians Union will not attend Labour Women’s Conference in September over the exclusion of trans women from formal business at the event.
The unions are among Labour’s largest financial backers and say the all-women event in Liverpool breaches their policies on trans inclusion.

🚨 NEW: Andy Burnham has announced an apprenticeship bursary of up to £4,500 a year for Universal Credit households whose benefits would fall if a young person started one

@Discombobu76694 I'm sorry that you're so incredibly thick that you don't understand that 51% of the world is made up of women.

@GoodLawProject Force? No we should go with the Supreme Court judgement! Simple as that!

Together, we can stop Sex Matters spreading hate about trans people.
