This is important to know as there’s so much misinformation out there regarding the handling of scholarships. Scholarship offers cannot be reduced or changed—-even if one year contracts— for performance or injury. You know when they can be reduced? The semester following the player entering the portal! Which is why so many are “ushered” into the portal. If the player said no thank you and stayed at the school even after being told there was not a spot for them on the team, they would maintain their scholarship money. Little know fact.

DID YOU KNOW?? Important info every D1 athlete (and parent) should know about athletic scholarships and protections: Athletic Scholarships: • If you received an athletic scholarship in your first year and still have eligibility, your school cannot reduce, cancel, or non-renew it for any athletics-related reason — including injury, illness (including mental health), or your contribution/ability on the team. • Schools can include terms to reduce/cancel for non-athletic reasons (like graduating), but they must apply those rules consistently. • You have the right to “stack” athletic scholarships with other financial aid up to the cost of attendance. This is why coaches may tell players: It’s best you enter the portal They can’t force you, but they can coerce you & when you enter, they get your scholarship back to spend on someone else If you don’t leave? They lose that money @SRUSA_Official

Portal update: ⌚️-- 9:45 ⬆️-- Over 300 D1 WSOC entrees & rising. Going be honest, there's a place for everyone to play collegiate ⚽️, in theory, but when you do the math & consider all factors academic & athletic... Some folks have kicked thier last collegiate ⚽️ don't know it😞

I just met someone whose last name is Einhorn, and because I apparently have no inner monologue, I blurted out, “Einhorn is Finkel! Finkle is Einhorn!” They didn’t get the reference. So sad

Recently a coach posted that they were still looking for players. Coach did not post name of school, just said to reach out if players were still looking. Instead of simply doing a search for the coaches name (it came up immediately for me), parents were asking “where?” “Location?” “What school?” I can see why players struggle to find a college home when folks can’t even be bothered to do a 5 second search

Tomorrow is my daughter's last club game. I have been working with some of these girls for 10 years. I am not sure how I am going to react.

@BamBamVan1 @ImCollegeSoccer There are plenty of D3 teams who would smack D1 teams. I get it, but saying there are not elite D3 players is wrong. They are just elite players who chose a higher academic institution and/or didn't want the soccer part to be a full time job.

@ImCollegeSoccer My daughter just signed D1 because she wanted to compete against the best. There are good teams and players in D3 but not the elite.

Which would you choose? A: A D3 spot with a $100k scholarship over 4yrs & chance to start your freshman yr. But you’d still owe 40k. B: A D1 spot with a scholarship for $50k over 4 years where you would sit the bench for the first 2 years. But you’d still owe 20k. #CSTruth

I’m reading that this could take effect immediately for fall of 2026, but they would consider a “phase in”so as not to affect any current student athletes eligibility. What they probably have not considered are the roster limits that they imposed. Consider, for example, a team with six superstar seniors that unexpectedly find out they are able to stay for a fifth year, but their replacements were already recruited a couple of years ago. That program would have no choice but to immediately cut six players either rostered or committed to make room for them under the new fangled “roster cap”. As usual, no one who makes these rules is actually living our day-to-day life and thinking about these things. If it does go through this fall, there will be an unprecedented number of players and commits cut in order to retain players that have already proven themselves in college (more than we saw when the roster caps were implemented!) Keep in mind the ONLY factor complicating this is the nonsensical roster cap forced upon us last year. In absence of that, we would all have flexibility to maintain and manage our own rosters and not be forced to cut or de-commit players.
Marsha Lycan@mlycan12

So the same folks that are limiting how many players we can recruit are now telling us we have to manage recruiting 5 years worth of eligibility within 4 years of classes while predicting everyone’s future and staying within the roster cap. This makes my head hurt. #FromBadToWorse #WhatIsGoingOn #BringCommonSenseBack #https://sports.yahoo.com/college-football/article/ncaa-proposing-major-changes-to-eligibility-rules-including-age-limits-121509806.html
