My latest Walks & Wildlife video is now live. Join me on a trip around Llyn Cefni, Anglesey, to discover some winter fungi, lots of ducks - including an uncommon one, and of course the delightful Red Squirrels. Dave youtu.be/2EMK3lHUe40

Driving back from a yoga class in Marlow this morning & spot a bunch of birders. Cameras, scopes, binocs poised. So of course I had to stop & be nosey!Apparently they're trying to spot a booted eagle, which would be a pretty good tick in Buckinghamshire! Anyone been rewarded yet?

☄️Comet over the Llŷn Peninsula. I was treated to views of the comet the other evening in the skies over Trefor, North Wales. Glad the clouds kept away, otherwise 80,000 years is a long wait to try again. Dave. #comet #astro

A stunning display over Flintshire last night, peaking around midnight, it was simply incredible. A huge thanks to @DaniDarkSkies for their enthusiasm and for inspiring me to be interested in the dark sky and, of course, to the late @alynwallace. #aurora #NorthWales

@gmtord @HewittKvn @mickey_ratfink Apologies all, it was exciting for us though, very interesting cluster of records. Haven't seen it this year but we have not had the trap on in the garden very much at all compared to last year. Dave.

@HewittKvn @mickey_ratfink Yes I was just being frivolous, it doesn't really matter who gets the first for Wales, just good to have the records. Interesting that there were 3 in such close succession - I haven't heard of any this year.

Feel like this little moth, Anarsia innoxiella, needs a tweet of its own. Its a moth that arrived to me a few days ago, and has just been confirmed as the first for Wales. Caught on the same night by @HewittKvn too!! Sorry to be a bore, but no friends/ family etc are interested

Not the best looking specimen, but finally glad to see Mountain Grisette (Amanita nivalis) in North Wales, growing on the plateaus with Dwarf Willow. Lots of dried out examples but there is always next year to try and find a pristine one! @cofnod #fungi #mushroom #northwales

Lovely day out with @cofnod yesterday recording wildlife. This Nursery Web Spider closely guarding its spiderlings was a great find by Richard. The Cave Spider (Meta menardi) he found will still give me nightmares though. #Spider #nature

Common Butterwort, Pinguicula vulgaris, growing in a very wet bog here in North Wales. This specimen was growing on wet rock on the path edge, allowing me to get a pic without getting too wet. A fly looks to be the next meal for this carnivorous plant. #wildflowerhour #bythewater

Lovely to spend the evening on lush rich wildflower grassland. This Dingy Skipper was very obliging and so would have been rude not to grab a pic. Understated beauty? I think so, they may not be as showy as other butterflies but they are just as charismatic. #butterfly #nature

A few days of plant and fungi hunting this week and started off with Wild Liquorice, Astragalus glycyphyllos, (no not the plant you get liquorice from) at Marford Quarry near Wrexham. Always do love photographing the pea family, they are so pretty. #wildflower #nature

Sunset Lichen (Lichenomphalia alpina) yesterday in the mountains, the highlight of an otherwise quiet day for nature. Loving the Welsh name, Bogail Melyn y Mynydd, Yellow Navel of the Mountain. Not recorded in North Wales since 2006 looking online. #fungi #mushroom #NorthWales

It is not everyday you can watch Waxwings in North Wales whilst an orchestra of Garden Warbler, Cuckoo and Redstart are all in full song, but its one of those weird weeks. A part of me lives in hope they may stay and breed, but they will move on soon no doubt. #nature #birds

In disbelief but it seems we lost one of Cymru’s brightest stars yesterday. Alyn, through his incredible passion and skills showcased the Welsh night sky to the world. He inspired thousands through his images to care about the night. Nos da Wally ✨❤️ you will be missed x

Continuing the celebration of St.David's Day in Wales I'd like to take you to the rugged landscapes and dark skies of Eryri and Ynys Môn, which you may know as Snowdonia and Anglesey. Here, Welsh is the primary language and so yesterday you may have heard, "Dydd Gŵyl Dewi hapus."
