Even in Star Wars (or The Mandalorian in this case as I'm watching the second season, so no spoilers please), with all that imagination, they still show a classroom as a line of desks and kids sitting in front of a teacher (in this case a robot)..come on!! We can do better!

An article in Finnish from a Finnish newspaper talking about the current situation in the Finnish classrooms. Please check it (it can be translated and it's possible to get the idea of the article). hs.fi/kaupunki/art-2…

In a short way, how would you define conventional schooling to someone who is not using such term? Just curious to know how others would do this!

What do you do when a student looks at you in the eye and say that they hate school?

In your opinion, is it possible to talk about antiracist education without addressing the characteristics of conventional schooling and ageism for example?

The more I hear experiences from other people, the more I'm surprised of how Finland is challenging the concept of whiteness. What might be considered as white in most parts of the world, here isn't. It would be worthy to dig deeper on this for sure.

Is it normal in other non-English speaking countries that a faculty of education would host a conference regarding international matters in higher education in the national language and not accesible in English? Asking for a friend

@Elina_Nie @JMKuukkanen @AnniinaLeiviska @UniOulu @KaisaHerne @ppietika Thanks for you answer. I think this shows the issue in here. Accessibility should go both ways, and events in only one language are problematic because there will be always people left out. But hopefully this will be something that will become important at some point. Thanks

Does anyone else see a problem in here? This is how my university justifies their lack of inclusion of international people and accessibility in general.

@JMKuukkanen @Discussingedu @AnniinaLeiviska @UniOulu @KaisaHerne @ppietika Thank you for the feedback. Indeed #StudioLipasto discussions are mainly aimed for wider Finnish-speaking audiences. Sometimes we do English only broadcasts like we did about climate change in February. We try to balance & be creative. youtube.com/watch?v=0U0SV3…

@JMKuukkanen @AnniinaLeiviska @UniOulu @KaisaHerne @ppietika Only thing I'm proposing (and been asking this for years now), is to make events and life in general in the university accesible for all the members of the community. And I'm commenting on this event, because it's an example of how we could do things differently. Thanks!

@JMKuukkanen @AnniinaLeiviska @UniOulu @KaisaHerne @ppietika Imagine how much wider audience could be reached if the event would be accesible in other languages (English for example as it's the common language that many people have both in Finland and also abroad). I'm not proposing to ditch Finnish and replace it with English (continues)

@AnniinaLeiviska @UniOulu @KaisaHerne @ppietika @JMKuukkanen That sounds nice from you. Thanks for offering! In your opinion, and connected to this issue, how does the democratic process work if part of the community are left out based on a language matter? Does this look problematic to you?
