Highly recommend obscure Spanish detective thriller La Isla Minima (2014), called Marshlands in American release. So similar to True Detective S1 it must have been influenced by it although they came out only months apart. Instead of Louisiana it takes place in the southern Spanish bayous, and the backstory/tension between the two detectives is cool because it’s set in 1980, just as Spain is coming out of Franco, and one of the characters is a fascist and the other isn’t. Extremely well made. It’s like half True Detective half Chinatown with very interesting historical setting.

@DisgracedProp Why not have Bass drop out now then? Is the angle that both of them get more votes than Spencer so no risk in the runoff? And if not then one endorses? I guess? Even in that scenario Bass would still want as many votes as possible.

There’s no way in hell Bass responds to Okeefe like this on the TL if she’s meant to win the election. Her and Nithya are from the literal exact same school of leftism—they simply have to be coordinating at some level. And they both know very well the line of never adopting the frame of your enemies PARTICULARLY the fringe enemies like Okeefe, and here she is literally RTing him into the feed with some lame excuse. There’s no way her handlers would ever allow this if she were trying to win. They’d pretend it doesn’t exist, as they’ve always effectively done with Okeefe post ACORN. If I had to guess, I’d say that Bass doesn’t want to continue and Nithya is her arranged successor.

When I was coming of age as a junior f@g hag in suburban New Jersey I was obsessed with AIDS and consumed every piece of media I could get my hands on about it. At the time — and probably still to this day — the common refrain was that Reagan was personally responsible for the deaths of thousands of gay men by refusing to do anything about the epidemic. One of my most “mind blown” moments was learning about author and playwright turned activist Larry Kramer and how he was pilloried by his own community when he said wait a minute boys maybe pump the breaks on the gay sex until we can get to the bottom of what’s going on. Larry, who ended up getting HIV himself, was the pinnacle of the loud annoying gay Jewish liberal activist with a messiah complex type but I’ve always had such a soft spot for him.

You know what’s most funny? Is that under Bass’s communist ass regime they actually did clean up one park: Echo Park, where a lot more white people who complain are.
