All these things are true (IMO): Evenepoel rides and attacks on pure instinct and emotion. He is the best and most aerodynamic rider on the flat - at least of his generation. And a lot of cycling fans (even journalists) love him for that. If he had cooperated with his teammates and Visma-Lease a Bike, they could/would have eliminated Almeida from GC contention (or at least put him at maybe a minute). We will see in the mountain stages how important that is or not. Vingegaard has every right NOT to ride with Evenepoel. He has a disadvantage on the flat, would spend more energy than Evenvepoel ahead of a big mountain stage (although that one is now cancelled), and would have lost the sprint and the 4 bonus seconds (10" vs 6"). Yes, that's not riding with panache. But if you're not riding on your own/best terrain, you have to be smart. Not everyone is Pogacar. Even if you are a semi-alien like Vingegaard.

Jonas showed again today that he is cold blooded killer bike racer, when he is of course racing. He also showed how he has complete control of the ditch that turns it on and off. One minute he is battling the best in cross winds, the next minute he is bridging across to the world TT champ at a bazillion watts, then the next minute he is willing to sacrifice (not go pull for pull) all that work (to get a second place) to save energy to kill all on the coming mtn stage. The next minute he is sitting up to avoid wasting energy and a chance at a cheap stage win to have a better chance at the win he wants in the mtn. Then the next minute he is calmly giving an interview about Remco after Remco ripped his legs off and yelled at him at the same time. Yes of course Jonas has amazing numbers, but mentally he has this killer instinct control and ability to bring it on demand which sets him apart. Today was a great example.

Is pulling for 30 kms with your GC biggest rival in your wheel for 30 km before the mountain stages, a total tactical disaster? Yes. Is that another reason to love Remco? Also yes. 😍 #VoltaCatalunya105
