You know it took me 3 years to finally get though 1 stock of a artbook/doujin that I only had 100 copies of that I printed for Comiket
I’m always weary of bringing artbook stock to conventions cause I can only sell 3 per con or none at all and it just becomes dead weight lmao

i think a big factor here is that US artist alley merch is priced for profit while JP fanbooks/derivative doujin are usually passion projects and sold at printing cost (which is the unwritten rule to be able to openly sell them and not get hit by copyright from the official too)
