Iran would be a far better ally for the United States than Israel. Iran produces oil, technology and food. Israel produces nothing.

@Joshua_the_car @JonathanL75978 Yep, Scandinavian countries have some of the best healthcare in the world and some of the lowest birthrates. People who make having children an economic issue haven’t looked at the statistics. Simply ignorant.

@JaylenTop @Katiemoneygrabz @Deloitte Yes, different circumstances but those women don’t let poverty stop them from having families. So yes, my point is solid and backed up statistically.

@DlVlD7 @Katiemoneygrabz @Deloitte African countries birth rates were still higher than ours in the 50s at the height of US birth rates in the last 100 years. There are far different circumstances to why those countries have always had high birth rates. Your argument doesn’t even have a glass for water.

Candy crush, sure, but maybe also maternity leave policies being mostly trash (big companies like @Deloitte cutting it to 8 weeks?!) and postpartum care/healthcare being mostly trash and lack of support/stigma around needing help and daycare/living costs skyrocketing are part of it, too. And the world might be richer than its ever been, but for who?

@BrianWalter1300 @60Minutes If that’s truly the case, that’s fine. However, the top 5 highest birthrate countries on earth are in Africa and are all within the top 15 in poverty level so there’s a disconnect from the argument you’re making and reality.

@DlVlD7 @60Minutes I’m selfish for not wanting to have kids. Was it selfish of me to take care of my mom until she died? She had dementia. I kept her at home & took care of her. The day she died she had a heart attack in my living room. I did CPR. But I’m selfish for not having kids. Fuck you.

@60Minutes For those of you crying in the comments- 27 of the 29 highest birth rate countries on earth are in Africa. Africa is the poorest continent on earth, for context. Time to come up with a better excuse, you bunch of crying, rich Americans.

@60Minutes Not one person in these replies aren’t having children because of the “cost”. They aren’t having children because they’re selfish and can’t be bothered. That’s the truth. If you want a family, you find ways to be creative to make it happen.

You’re wrong. There is an inverse relationship here — countries with the strongest healthcare and maternal care systems tend to have the lowest birth rates. Niger, Central African Republic, Chad, Somalia, Democratic Republic of the Congo are top 5 for birthrate. Now, let’s discuss healthcare access there.

When my wife and I had our daughter, we were both public school teachers. We had insurance through the school system. We paid about $400 a month for insurance. Our deductible was $14,000. My wife got 0 maternity leave - had to use all her accumulated sick days, then take unpaid time off. These are complaints because we knew our situation and chose to have a child. When middle class families pay for insurance and it still costs over $10,000 PLUS zero maternity/paternity leave - i think it’s fair to assume why “we’ve stopped making babies.”

@thomaslhorrocks At the essential baseline level he’s correct. Very few people say “I’m not starting the family that I desperately want because it’s too expensive.” People at the core are too self centered to sacrifice to have children.
