Petzing took HC interviews last year. With Gannon being fired, his job was almost certainly gone as well - the second OC jobs start opening (which they will with 10 HC openings this year) Petzing would have been a hot commodity. In truth, the most SOL thing ever would have been hire McD, have him leave, and then get stuck with someone like Arthur Smith as the best available option…

The Lions made an OC hire before the OC market really even opened up. There was 10 HC openings, which meant 10 OC openings. Most of these teams haven’t even started interviewing guys yet. You have no idea what his market was going to be. Class, what do we do when we assume?
