Department of Fisheries - Malawi

From 17 to 22 September, 2023 , a visit to Likoma district was conducted by a team comprising the Department of Fisheries Hqs, the REFRESH project, and USAID officials. Discussions were engaged with the Sub-Fisheries Association (Sub-FA) and Beach Village Committees (BVCs)

On 27th July 2023, the Department of Fisheries convened a project review meeting at Crossroads Hotel in Lilongwe. The aim of the meeting is to receive progress reports on implementation of various projects being undertaken in the fisheries sector.

In its desire to strengthen Fisheries Enforcement, the Department of Fisheries with support from a USAID-funded project implemented by PACT, conducted a refresher training for Fisheries MCS officers, Magistrates, Police Prosecutors and Police Investigators from 10th to 12th July.

It was all joy today for members of six fisheries cooperatives that emerged successful and received six refrigerated vans each under SFAD-WM Project. Minister of Natural Resources and Climate Change, Honorable Dr. Michael Usi was the Guest of Honor at this colorful event.

In June 2023, the districts of Nsanje, Chikwawa, Mulanje, Phalombe and Zomba conducted trainings for fish farmers in Business Management and Marketing with financial support from the African Development Bank's Post Cyclone Idai Emergency Recovery and Resilience Project (PCIERP).

An African Development Bank (AfDB) mission for the Post Cyclone Idai Emergency Recovery and Resilience Project (PCIERP) visited aquaculture sites in Phalombe district, Malawi, to appreciate the progress made on various project interventions.
