A new report raises serious questions about how the Association of American Medical Colleges interpreted the research it cited to support claims about racial concordance in pain treatment. According to the report written by @jaypgreene, none of the four studies referenced in the AAMC’s legal brief actually examined whether Black physicians were more likely to accurately assess and treat Black patients’ pain, calling the scientific basis of that claim into question. Today marks 1 year since it was revealed that the infamous & debunked infant mortality race concordance study buried findings that "undermine the narrative." The study was published in @PNASNews (the journal of the National Academy of Sciences). It still hasn't been retracted.

On March 30th, Do No Harm filed a federal civil rights complaint against three healthcare providers: Corewell Health, Texas Tech University, and HCA Healthcare.  Each of these entities runs an internal medicine residency program, all of which appear to selectively favor foreign doctors over American physicians on the basis of nationality or race. Indeed, in all three of these programs’ most recent cohorts of residents, more than 90% of residents come from abroad.  Discrimination on the basis of national origin or race is illegal. Today, Do No Harm filed a federal lawsuit in the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia challenging racial discrimination in the Native Hawaiian Health Scholarship Program, which is administered by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS). “In the last year, the Department of Health and Human Services has made historic strides toward ending racial bias in medicine and restoring meritocracy,” said Stanley Goldfarb, MD, Chairman at Do No Harm. “That this program still exists even after the efforts by this administration to course correct proves just how widespread institutional race discrimination has become. Our complaint challenging the Native Hawaiian Health Scholarship Program is aimed at ensuring well-deserving applicants can qualify to compete for the financial relief the scholarship provides. The National Academies were once the gold standard in American science. However, they’re increasingly pushing ideological agendas instead of scientific inquiry, especially in medicine. “Equity” has replaced evidence, and real medical progress suffers as trust in our institutions erodes. Recent reports suggest President Trump has an opportunity to confront this directly by cutting off taxpayer support for institutions that prioritize ideology over patient care. @MarkMeadows wrote an article in the @dcexaminer suggesting this. Unsurprisingly, the American Medical Association’s recent press statements do not reflect a true institutional shift away from gender ideology and toward evidence-based medicine. That’s exactly why Do No Harm demanded the AMA firmly and unequivocally reject so-called “gender-affirming care” for minors: there should be no ambiguity when it comes to the safety of our country’s children. The fight isn’t over just yet. We have a long way to go before the AMA and other major medical associations ditch gender ideology and recognize the dangers of pediatric medical transition. Do No Harm will continue our work to ensure that children are safe from these harmful practices.
