The protection now being extended to Senator Bato is the same protection this state denied thousands of Filipinos during the bloody years of the drug war. No warrants served with caution. No guarantees of due process. No Senate shielding them from arrest. No powerful institution rushing to defend their rights after they were branded guilty without trial. For years, ordinary Filipinos were told that fear, violence, and death were necessary. Now that accountability is approaching the powerful, suddenly the language has changed to rights, dignity, and protection under the law. The hypocrisy is staggering.

This is a result of the Senate as an institution being used to a) obstruct justice in the case of Bato Dela Rosa, and b) evade accountability in the case of Sara Duterte. Wala silang pakialam sa Saligang Batas basta makatakas lamang sila. Mga kawatan!

I find it SUPREMELY IRONIC that the Senate, which approved the accession of the Philippines to the Rome Statute, is now protecting a fugitive who is under arrest for violating the Rome Statute. Let’s all give senators a big hand of applause. 👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏

During ERAP’s impeachment trial, we sort of knew we didn't have the numbers to convict. But what mattered was the evidence was being presented to the Filipino people. And the moment the majority blocked the 2nd envelope, the people became the judges. We are not powerless here.
