Talented people (Ted Carter, Ronnie Green, Trev Alberts) leave a team when the leadership above them loses sight of the team's purpose. The team is the University. When the leadership cuts funding, and undermines the team's purpose with political dogma they leave.

@MandyMathEd I also think the nature of "networking" has changed. You used to go to conferences primarily to network and talk math with other math educators. Now you can lean into virtual experiences, social media, etc. to do your "networking" and not need to attend a conference.

@MandyMathEd Cost, complete lack of subs, fewer math teachers. I also think looking at what research tells us about professional learning. Conferences are a "one occurence" learning experience. How many things do we collect from those that sit on a shelf? Real learning is on-going.
