@SumitM_X If an ambulance takes you to the hospital, you don't charge the patient for the oxygen that kept them alive. Severance serves a similar purpose. It's emergency support, not a windfall. I really hope the government gives this some serious thought.

@arunbothra Yes, it's bothersome when that happens. Patient should get due attention. Only emergency calls should be taken. When I have to call a colleague, I WhatsApp them 1st to know their convenient time unless it's an emergency.

Let me clarify. Yesterday I went to see a doctor. During a 12–15 minute consultation, he got three calls, one from a patient, one from a colleague and one from home. I had to repeat myself to explain my problem. It was distracting and irritating. Many doctors are responding that they need phones “for the benefit of patients.” Fair enough in an emergency. But taking routine calls and checking WhatsApp during consultation is certainly not for benefit of patient who has paid for that time.
Dr A V Ranganadham@avranga

@arunbothra If technology can be used to benefit the patient, why not? I'm sure you'll agree that the information on the web is far from accurate, it needs some gyan to know what's right and what's wrong

Everyone remembers the attack on the Mumbai railway station on 26/11, the gunmen walking the platforms, more than fifty people killed. Almost nobody remembers the announcer whose voice sent hundreds of strangers running the other way while the bullets were still flying. His name is Vishnu Dattaram Zende. On the night of 26 November 2008, he was on duty in the announcer's cabin at Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus, a raised glass room looking out over the platforms. It was near the end of his shift when he heard a loud blast and gunfire, and saw people running. Two terrorists had walked into the busiest station in the country and begun shooting everyone in sight. At that station alone, they would kill more than fifty people. From his cabin he could see the whole layout, and he understood something fast. Local trains were still pulling in, each one about to pour hundreds of passengers straight onto the platforms where the gunmen were standing. He had a microphone that reached every platform. He decided to use it, even though it meant staying exactly where he was, in full view, instead of hiding. He began making announcements, over and over, in Hindi and Marathi, telling people not to come to the main concourse, telling them to leave by the rear exits, warning them away from the guns. Hundreds of people changed direction because of that voice and walked out of the station instead of into the bullets. The terrorists worked out where the announcements were coming from. They came and stood almost directly below his cabin. One of them fired up toward him. He kept low, waited, and when he could, went back to the microphone. He was an ordinary railway announcer on an ordinary shift. He had no weapon and no protection, just a mic and a clear view of what was coming. He stayed at his post and used the one tool he had to push strangers out of the path of the killers. The men with the rifles are the names everyone remembers from that station. The voice that quietly saved hundreds of the people they came to kill belonged to Vishnu Zende.

It's CWG decathlon🥉for Tejaswin Shankar. Historic first for 🇮🇳 . He finishes with 7976 pts behind ex Olympic champ David Warner (8036) & Olympic bronze winner Lindon Victor (8096). TJ needed a superhuman effort in the 1500m. But he's done brilliantly to make the podium

I am deeply anguished to know that the legendary colour of the Indian hockey team’s jersey has been changed to saffron. The iconic shade of blue of the Indian hockey team is not just a colour. It is an emotion associated with the nation’s sporting heritage. For decades, this colour united us in hope, in victory, in defeat and in the pursuit of sporting excellence. We have cried, laughed, celebrated and stood proudly with our men and women in blue. Wearing the blue jersey our teams have won Olympic medals with the national anthem playing on the world stage. #Blue is derived from the blue chakra in our national flag. It is a symbol of our national pride and identity. The colour blue belongs to every Indian. When the national hockey teams were struggling for sponsors, #Odisha created history by being the first and only state to support our national teams and our beloved game. Every Odia across the globe was proud of the state’s gift to national hockey. After 41 long years, our men’s team won an Olympic medal. Just because the government changed in Odisha, it should not change our national team colours. This is petty politics of the worst kind. Our blue jersey is to us what the iconic stripes are to Argentina and the yellow jersey is to Brazil. It is etched in our collective memory. Any change in this colour, is a crass attempt to erase our priceless sporting legacy. National symbols are meant to unite us not divide. I am given to understand that this step was taken under pressure from the BJP Government in Odisha. Those in authority may deny it, but the fact is that for the last two years, everybody in Odisha has seen the obsession of this government with changing colours of buildings, buses and even bridges. It is the only work that is happening in Odisha today. But now the same government has changed the colours of our national team. I strongly condemn this attempt by BJP Odisha to politicise a national game like hockey. It has deeply hurt the sentiments of lakhs of sports lovers across the country and the pride with which Odisha has supported the national hockey. #Hockey #MenInBlue #WomenInBlue
