i actually don’t think it’s weird to make theatrical music that errs on the side of the extreme lyrically. theatricality allows for it. it’s also why all that stuff is at very least more fun than a lot of the “oh i’m unsure of myself” khaki shorts pop punk of the 2010s.

Certainly a lot of 00s emo — or what got called emo, scene, MySpace emo, w/e — was quite jarring misogynistic, but another weird thing is how narcissistic it was? So much Brand New, P!ATD, FFTL lyrics were “I am so clever, I am so handsome, I am so incredibly talented”. Quite odd
