We have been talking about how the summer is an especially great time to read novels. Here are some of the books I have been talking to the students about.
Here are a few reminders:
Monday is a holiday. There is no school for students.
Oral presentations are due on Tuesday.
There is a math assessment on Tuesday -- the topic is inequalities. There is a lesson and practice work in the Google Classroom.
Today your child will be bringing home two pieces of assessed work: an algebra quiz and an infographic for media. Please check out their infographics in the Google classroom.
There will be an assessment for algebra on Wednesday. The students need to be able to solve one, two, and three step equations while showing all their steps. There is a lesson and practice questions in the Google classroom.
In math (algebra) we are learning to solve one, two, and three step equations while showing all of our work. We are learning to isolate the variable by using the inverse. We are also using algebra tiles to visualize our solutions.
We are learning to use the properties of supplementary, complementary, opposite, interior, and exterior angles to solve for unknown angle measures. There is an assignment tomorrow so they can demonstrate their understanding. Lots of practice work is in the Google Classroom.
We have started a new social studies unit. These are the big ideas in the photos attached.
Please help your child complete a short task about how their story is part of the story of Canada. They will be bringing home a paper with some questions to ask you.
Just a reminder to families that Friday and Monday are holidays -- there is no school.
Also, the Health project (Poster or Mini-Movie) is due on Tuesday.
Our Science summative project called Vehicle of the Future is due today. Students who have not completed this task and submitted will be staying in at lunch to complete it.
We are almost finished a summative project on electric vehicles for Science. At home you could discuss the pros and cons of electric vehicles as well as the design challenges of building full sized electric vehicles compared to the mini versions we made.
We have just started an assignment for Health. The students are creating a PSA poster or a mini movie to teach younger students about how what we post online can impact us now and in the future.
The students have math homework for finding the surface areas of rectangular prisms. The work can be found in the Google Classroom and should be completed using paper and pencil.
