@k3vk4 Oh there's plenty with PCI - every O2 has one, Octanes do with the shoebox or shoehorn, Fuels and Tezros have them, Origin2000s can have them, etc. The D1 was a PCI card - the hardware ran and mostly worked in a real SGI O2 in late 2017. The software just never got there.

@k3vk4 Hardware got ahead of software on that project. It worked on the bench, but the software side was not done and, at the time, I wasn't really able to get it to work. I could probably do it better now, but compatibility with only the O2 and reliance on rare chips are still issues.

@zznate @CompAesthetics These are my machines - I did the math on it once and I think combined MSRP of these was around $1.1M USD.

@CompAesthetics Depending on how the origin and onyx were kitted out, that would of been close to a million in hardware

@Kirschbanane1 I would probably try to run it. If it doesn't work you'd want to talk to/bring it to someone who's familiar with working on SGI stuff. If it's still sealed in the box, and you do want to take it out, preserve the packaging and cut as little as possible - it's rare!

@DodoidOfficial THX what would you do? Sorry for stupid questions, I'm an IT specialist but I don't have anything to do with hardware only software. Would you unpack the device and put it into operation? Or should I visit an SGI expert or electrical specialist and let him check the hardware?

I got a brand new Indy ! I still need a 13W3 monitor what do I have to consider @DodoidOfficial when I use it for the first time ? PS: The Indy is still wrapped in foil, I have not opened it. First I want to know what I have to consider

@Kirschbanane1 You can try to run it but if you try and it's dead there's a pretty strong chance it's a dead PSU. The dallas chip just pulls out, if it needed to be swapped you'd have to source a replacement though.

@DodoidOfficial thanks how do I replace the Dallas chip? may I now connect the device directly to the power supply and switch it on? or do I have to test something first? Best Regards

@AxiomaticRaptor "ripping on vintage tech youtubers cause they kep driving prices up" uhh.... sorry. I think my Onyx video may have inadvertently Techmoan-effected at least some SGIs.

@NAK3DDesigns @PrintedSolid Ah, makes sense. Maybe I should just build then. Any idea when the belt parts might be available?

@DodoidOfficial @PrintedSolid As I understand it there are many patent issues that Printed Solid wants to make sure will not be a problem before kits are produced. I am still working with them to at least stock the belt items to help cut costs and I am also working with them to group all the parts they carry.

@NAK3DDesigns Any news on the kit from @PrintedSolid ? I'm very interested in a White Knight, trying to decide whether to wait for your kit or try to build one from parts. I completely understand if you're unable to give details.

@irix_network @ShortFormErnie Been playing with Inmarsat hardware lately. IsatHub, so not technically "BGAN" but basically it is. Believe me, if HughesNet is an option (i.e. your setup doesn't need to be portable and you're in North America), it beats this thing. $4/MB and it ain't any faster!

@LinusTech @Lenovo The TrackPoint consumes far less space, both inside and outside the machine, which means more room for expansion inside, and larger keyboards with more proportionate palmrests on small machines (which is why the X-series didn't get a trackpad until 2010)

@LinusTech @Lenovo Trackpads can easily crack in drops due to their position at the front of the machine and the fact that they're often made, at least partially, of a thin sheet of textured glass. This happens pretty often on old MacBooks in particular. TrackPoints don't have this problem.

I will say, Type C and the wireless stuff on the Pi 4 are nice for some use cases. Still truly impressive how ahead of its time a lot of ODROID stuff is/was though.

A desktop-use-capable SoC, more than a gig of RAM, two USB3 ports, faster storage, and Gigabit LAN. Needs a bit of a beefier power brick, and costs around $50 all-in. Congratulations, Raspberry Pi Foundation, on a formidable competitor to the ODROID-XU4... from 2015. @OdroidH
