With University fees averaging KES 200,000 per year totalling about KES 800,000 in four years, not counting other costs, this 4-year investment into education is looking like a mortgage. If you invest say KES 1.5 million over 4 years, and then get a job that pays you KES 50,000 after school, if you save a surplus of say KES 10,000 per month, you will take 150 months to recoup your fees or 12.5 years. Short technical and online classes are looking more appealing with a better return on investment. Microsoft, Cisco, Google, Amazon, Andela, Coursera, Alison, and Udemy courses might attract more students from Kenya this year. Even worse, after graduating with a Kenyan degree, you are not job market ready. For most courses, you still have to invest further to get professional certification. This is where you spend an extra 20-50% in KASNEB, KSL, and other institutes and societies that certify or license you to practice. It's time to rethink the investment in education from a mortgage perspective with focus on the return on investment. Let me not even speak about masters and PhD programs.

There's nothing like 100% in the financial markets. Technicals DON'T determine the fundamentals. And in instances that data is already priced in, it's because the big players have informational edge. Fundamentals determine asset pricing, technicals provide entry & exit points.
