Alternate between working as a Consultant Anaesthetist and an environmentalist.
A highlight of my week is @parkrunUK where I speak to as many people as possible about the need to consider the ocean in all we do.

If you go down to the woods today...
First time for the dolphin at @DalbyForestpkr and wow, what a welcome - so friendly and so beautiful ❤️.
Thanks so much to the RD for the shout out at the start and will definitely be back 🐬.
Thanks for all the volunteers as always 🙏.
The 2nd week the dolphin has taken time off @parkrunUK due to fin injury but today it's time to celebrate as the High Seas Treaty enters into force, launching a new era of global ocean governance

The summer of 1976: putting a very hot & dry summer into context
50 years on, the summer of 1976 is often misused by those wanting to downplay the risks from climate change as it still holds a small, but reducing, number of temperature records.

I'd love to attempt a @parkrunUK Guiness World Record as the dolphin runner but unfortunately it doesn't seem possible to enquire about applications which have been pending for longer than the 12 weeks quoted.
Hopefully a reply early 2026 @GWR 🙏🏃🐬

The Bowhead Whale has the biggest mouth of any animal which has ever lived.
It also repairs damaged DNA really well resulting in very low rates of cancer and slow aging.
They can live over 200 years which means some of these mammals were alive during the industrial revolution.
Due to pain, I stopped running in 2008 but after 16 years on the bike, I was encouraged to try again.
I cannot believe the difference in equipment quality and the combination of @ASICSUK@Enertor@balega@Incrediwear works perfectly for the dolphin.

My recycling win for the year - soft/flexible plastic.
Gather it up in a soft plastic bag, put in your car and the next time you are at a supermarket, put in one of their dedicated recycling cages. No special trips and an easy win.
Thanks to @rubbishpodcast as always.
Greener Practice Partners with CPDmatch to Drive Climate Literacy Across Healthcare
Greener Practice, a not-for-profit community interest company run by clinicians for clinicians, has announced its support for CPDmatch — the pioneering educational platform dedicated to tackling the triple planetary crisis of climate change, pollution, and biodiversity loss.
Founded to help primary care move towards environmentally sustainable healthcare, Greener Practice provides practical resources, training, and a UK-wide network enabling clinicians to share expertise and best practice. Its backing of CPDmatch marks a significant step in uniting healthcare and environmental education.
As the first primary care–focused organisation to partner with CPDmatch, Greener Practice is setting an example for others to embrace environmental and social responsibility. The partnership aims to deepen climate and environmental literacy among healthcare professionals and empower them to communicate the links between planetary health and patient wellbeing.
“This sponsorship reflects Greener Practice’s commitment to sustainability and our belief in industry-wide climate literacy,” said Emily O’Reilly, Membership and Network Development Officer at Greener Practice. “By supporting CPDmatch, we’re encouraging our members and the wider healthcare community to engage with the environmental challenges facing our planet — and to inspire meaningful action.”
The collaboration stems from a shared mission to equip healthcare professionals with the knowledge and confidence to address ecological crises and their consequences for human health. Through continued professional development in climate-related education, both organisations aim to foster a cultural shift toward environmental stewardship throughout healthcare.
Prof Richard Hixson, Consultant Anaesthetist, Honorary Associate Professor at the University of Exeter, and Designer of CPDmatch, welcomed the partnership: “I’ve long admired the incredible work of Greener Practice, and it’s a huge boost for CPDmatch to be collaborating with such an inspiring organisation. Together, we’ll strengthen climate and environmental literacy across the healthcare value chain — inspiring actions that improve the health of both people and planet.”
