Glory Days for the Waifs and Strays: Identity and Meaning in the Rise of the Modern Manchester City is out NOW via all the usual online outlets. You can only buy signed copies at Deansgate Waterstones, though. (no, that hasn't knocked a chunk off the price.) @BitebackPub

This was the tournament of the stars. Where all the big players were shining, tremendous individual showings, illuminating the competition. And then Spain come and show it is all about team effort. A collective idea. An entire squad totally bought in. Tremendous.

Given we might be on the verge of peak Haalandmania, I should probably plug the fact there's a chapter about the big man and his global appeal in my book, Glory Days for the Waifs and Strays. Link to an extract landing in the next tweet like a ball to the back of the head. 1/3

Almost as if he's suggesting the completely unworkable idea of staging a fight open air in the middle of the night in November because he has absolutely no intention of it taking place in the UK. If there was genuine willingness to stage in the UK, Cardiff would be on the table.

@DomFarrell1986 Well, now I feel bad as that was never my intention! I still feel your general point that serious football people should not be making accusations of corruption flippantly. As always, I look forward to your posts and insights!!!

a host government bragged about getting the rules bent in their favour but the tournament is actually rigged because Argentina were given a French referee

@Rocket_Sauce13 On reflection, you're right. I'm probably putting words in his mouth to an extent. I'll delete

@DomFarrell1986 A bit unfair to put words in his mouth, if I’m honest. You’re welcome to have that opinion though, I just didn’t read it that way. I concede that other big accounts may be peddling that trash though, so your original point is a valid one.

@Rocket_Sauce13 He doesn't mention it, no. But it feels implied. I don't think that Austria decision is in any way relevant tbh. It's a different type of challenge, the ref makes a call

@DomFarrell1986 Where does he mention corruption? Looks like he’s just bemoaning the inconsistency, as we all do all the time.
