Our current issue also features a book review of @prof_ahmetkuru’s recently published popular book Islam, Authoritarianism, and Underdevelopment by @GokhanBacik.

They find that various factors such as relationship status, income, occupational sector, and social environment mediate the effect of compulsory public service on job satisfaction and loneliness.

Likewise, cities that are part of the compulsory public service exhibit important sociocultural differences. To examine the effects of compulsory public service on job satisfaction and loneliness, Gunes and Bilek carried out a survey with public servants in Bitlis, Turkey.

7/7 Analyzing an understudied policy employed by governments, Huseyin Nihat Gunes and Gunal Bilek analyze the impact of compulsory service for civil servants on their wellbeing in “Effects of Compulsory Public Service on Job Satisfaction and Loneliness in Turkish Civil Servants.”

By comparatively analyzing levels of youth participation in the pre- and post-Gulf War periods and the impact of oil revenues, Lakshminarayanan offers a much-needed review of policies that can integrate youth populations into the economic development process in meaningful ways.

In a society defined by economic prosperity and a generous welfare system, Lakshminarayanan views Kuwaiti youth’s political and social participation as the key to a potential transformation of the Kuwaiti political economic system.
