Galion’s postseason surge rolled on in a big way as the Tigers knocked off Clear Fork — a team that had beaten them twice during the regular season — to punch their ticket to the district championship. After a season that didn’t always produce the results they wanted, the Tigers have flipped the script by treating tournament play like a fresh start. Inside the locker room, the mindset has stayed positive thanks to strong team chemistry, and now the group is rallying around one clear mission: keep the season alive for the seniors. Dom Capretta led the charge with a dominant performance in the paint, shooting 8-of-11 from the floor while grabbing seven rebounds. Much of his production came from sheer effort on the glass, battling for offensive rebounds and turning them into put-backs. Capretta said he felt Clear Fork simply couldn’t guard him inside, and the results backed it up. With the Tigers advancing, he believes the pressure now shifts to their next opponent — the higher seed — while Galion continues trying to prove it’s far better than what its regular-season record showed. Galion vs Saint Marys Memorial looked to be a stalemate early on, but momentum would drastically shift the Tigers' way who ran away with a 35-6 victory to kick off the season. Following a scoreless 1st quarter, Kurt Hay would get Galion on the board with a 5-yard TD run, but the XP would be blocked. Ayden Schmidt later added to the Tigers edge with a 1-yard rushing TD and converted the 2-point attempt before Schmidt threw a perfect ball to Jacob Chambers to closse out the half with a 50-yard touchdown strike and 21-0 lead. Out of the break, Hay would keep the pressure on with an 85-yard rushing TD to push Galion's lead to 28-0, and extended their cushion with 6 minutes left in the third when Stuckman rumbled in to paydirt for a 27-yard run to make it 35-0. The Roughriders would spoil the shutout with a 6-yard TD run from Caleb Schmidt, but the game had already been decided.
