Three Suspects Abandon Bail in Monswamy Family Massacre Case as Court Proceedings Continue Three suspects in the Monswamy family massacre abandoned their bail application during their first appearance in the KwaDukuza Magistrate’s Court today, Tuesday. The men, aged 21, 26 and 28, face charges of kidnapping, rape, robbery and murder after seven family members were abducted from their Newtown, Newark home on April 21, driven about 200km away, shot, stabbed and dumped in a field near Melmoth. One suspect is believed to have been a former employee of the family. Hundreds of protesters, grieving relatives, political parties and government officials including KZN Premier Thamsanqa Ntuli gathered outside the court, demanding no bail and swift justice for the victims: Alan Monswamy (52), his wife Sandy (57), their children Kraidon (26) and Shamaria (20), and relatives Gonosagren (Cliffy) Padayachee (51), Mooniamma Padayachee (78) and Mariama (Mariamma) Happanah/Appanah (83). Police are still hunting for two additional suspects, one allegedly in possession of the family’s stolen vehicle.
