The Bank Top at Bedlington is a lovely old hotel-cum-inn. It's a relatively recent addition to the town's vast portfolio of pubs, especially in comparison to its old neighbour the Puddlers Inn.
It's stood here since the turn of the 20th century - long after the closure of the Bedlington Iron Works down the bank as well as the aforementioned Puddlers. It does raise the question why such an extravagant building was erected here, but it was still only a stroll away from the station and village, & previously at that stage featured lovely views of the viaduct and the Blyth.
It was certainly popular too - the village leek shows took place here as well as hosting quoits & darts competitions. It was also a Newcastle Breweries pub, so perhaps wanted to put their stamp on the surrounding area.
There's a decent chance it was designed by Joseph Oswald, who was the go-to for Newcastle Breweries. That would be apt too, as he designed the Barrington Institute we mentioned this morning.
Nowadays, the pub is ran as a community venture and is kept very nicely.
