The Orlando Police Department is currently investigating a shooting that occurred in Downtown Orlando, resulting in multiple victims. On 11/01/2024, at approximately 1:07 a.m., officers responded to reports of shots fired at Central Blvd. and Orange Ave. Within minutes, a second shooting was witnessed by officers south of Washington Street on Orange Avenue. A total of 8 victims were shot. Tragically, 2 individuals have been pronounced deceased. The remaining 6 victims were transported to Orlando Regional Medical Center (ORMC) in stable condition. The ages of the victims range from 19 to 39-years-old. Shortly after the initial shots were reported, a suspect was located by officers on OPD’s Downtown Detail and taken into custody at Washington St. and Orange Ave. That suspect has been identified as 17-year-old Jaylen Dwayne Edgar, who was previously arrested for Grand Theft in 2023. In light of this tragic incident, the Orlando Police Department would like to remind the community that safety is our top priority. Nearly 100 officers were patrolling Downtown at the time of the shooting, due to the large crowd expected on Halloween. The Orlando Police Department is also assessing the need for increased patrols Downtown this weekend. This is all the information we have available at this time.

This afternoon, Chief Smith joined Mayor Dyer in a press conference to provide an update on the shooting this morning in downtown Orlando. In addition to the victim details and suspect charges, Chief Smith shared details about OPD's proactive efforts that have resulted in the seizure of 151 crime guns in the last six months and 309 crime guns over the past year. At this time, one additional victim has been identified. This morning, she self-transported to a local hospital and is currently in stable condition. This brings the total number of victims to 10. In response to last night's shooting and to prevent potential retaliation, we will be increasing our Downtown Detail this weekend. We recently had the pleasure of celebrating the birthday of one of our bravest little officers, Officer Stone Hicks. The hero-themed party was perfect for our five-year-old superstar! It was great to see Chief Eric Smith and his fellow officers come out to honor Stone on his special day.

My grandmother is a rather unusual woman. On her 75th birthday, she announced to the family that her will was finalised, and she had left enough money for her funeral. When she turned 80, she sent each grandchild exactly £86; our dividend from her pension, as she called it.
