Solana has a Middle Class problem: It doesn't have one. ETH had a 2020 defi summer where lots of people made money in a weirdly non super extractive way. example is YFI - which created a lot of wealth. and while defi tokens did not do great long term they still created a lot of wealth bc people were able to get in the ground floor (ie YFI) these users then became power users of subsequent defi apps and L2s. they had both the skill and the money to make those apps successful. Solana from beginning to end has been hyperextractive: -sold privately, then on coin list, only ending up on exchanges much later at a price many multiples of the private rounds. -in 2021-22 High FDV low float "sam coins" were the standard in solana even amongst blue chip solana projects meaning buyers of even good projects then got rekt. -in 2024 the solana trend been meme coins where a few benefit at the expense of the 99.5% (pumpdotfun) there are a few decent solana tokens for good projects (JUP, kmno etc.) but they launched at high valuations, giving a good airdrop for early users, but for the most part, regular people have not been able to make good money the way they did in eth 2020-2021 Solana has no strong middle or even upper middle class like there is on Ethereum - the value has been extracted by VCs, bad tokenomics, and casino projects. I personally still like Solana for a number of reasons: -cool tech with good performance, enables use cases not quite possible on eth sometimes(though less true than before these days) -some cool, good and original applications -a great BD and marketing team for the chian but imo this is a big structural and cultural issue Solana needs to address. just like countries with a strong middle class thrive, so do chains.
