@mexicola25 @tariqpanja It’s just so indicative of what football has become. It’s not ‘important’ but it shows how even the World Cup final isn’t safe of these kinds of nepotism.

Arrested. Confronted. Detained. Called ‘damage in the mind’. It wouldn’t be tolerated against any other group, but it’s what #LGBTQ+ people were subjected to at a World Cup where football put their basic rights up for debate. Me for @BBCSport. 👉🏻 bbc.in/3hAWjTd

Welcome to the future of football. As fans we didn’t take a collective stand by boycotting the Qatar World Cup, now we’ve got to deal with the consequences.

Infantino, Messi, Tamim Al-Thani and even Salt bae are the Kings of football. They reign supreme while faceless slaves build their kingdom and nameless, voiceless commoners can do nothing but enjoy the spectacle. And if they’re not straight men they should keep their heads down.

Not watching this World Cup gave us a lot of time to reflect on the state of football going forward. Some thoughts on the new age of politics in football, which of course was well under way before Qatar 2022, but is now undeniably upon us ⬇️
