@delhivery my package AWB# 29960810082493 is stuck at Coimbatore since Mar 31. When are you going to deliver it?. False promises and pathetic service.

@sentinel1909 @rustlang If your primary focus is on web APIs then it may not be required. However if you want to get an in-depth understanding of unsafe Rust, raw pointers, FFI, performance and memory optimizations, embedded Rust etc. knowledge of C and assembly is required.

Learning @rustlang by someone with no systems programming background is like jumping from one rabbit hole to another. Don't worry, the brilliant folks from the Rust community is always there to pull you out of every damn hole !!!

My favorite Rust books! 🦀 (in no order) What book are you reading? Also, I created a Notion page for all the Rust resources I found 👉 rustacean.io

I think it's not a bad idea to learn C in order to get a better understanding of FFI, unsafe Rust, embedded Rust etc.

@adibhanna The worst thing about a backend engineer IMHO is the on-call production support of backend systems especially during weekends and non business hours.

the best thing about being a backend engineer, is that I don’t have to fight over React vs Vue vs whatever. I now fight over Rust vs Go vs Zig

@timClicks I think Deref having an associated type vs AsRef having a type parameter is also a pretty big difference. Like String implements AsRef for str, [u8], OsStr, and Path, but it only implements Deref for str.

Am I the only one who occasionally needs to check the differences between these traits? Are any other pairs confusing? - Copy vs Clone - Debug vs Display - ToString vs Display - ToString vs ToOwned - AsRef vs Borrow - Send vs Sync - Sized vs ?Sized

@jynelson514 @timClicks 100% agree. If you can understand complex trait bounds in function signatures, you're an intermediate Rust developer.

@timClicks How to find and read documentation, especially the generated documentation on docs.rs. Predict what a function does from its type signature: `and_then` is ambiguous, but `fn and_then<U, F>(self, f: impl FnOnce(T) -> Option<U>) -> Option<U>` narrows it down a lot

@adibhanna It'll be very helpful if you can create a tutorial on commonly used traits like Deref, AsRef, Into, From, Borrow, ToOwned, Cow (enum) etc. Focusing on when to use these traits.

Inlay hints are a Rust Analyzer feature I use every day, but having them on *all the time* can be a pain, and needing to hold a key to have them show up isn't the best experience.
