seriou question: how do you handle an intellectual doppelganger who has systematically started adopting every position you have argued for for 30 years while presenting each idea as if it were his own? nothing in graduate school prepared me for this.

@DoozerDiffuser @iavins Its a goal for compiled languages to achieve self hosting (the compiler for the language is written in the same language) but they need a starting point

In the early days, Rust was implemented in OCaml That means Rust was the first project to get rewritten in Rust

The AI panic is really unbelievable today. The level of delusion and hype have grown to mythic proportions. Has AI beaten Pokemon Red yet? Like a normal 6 year old does, by looking at the screen? Oh it hasn't. But all jobs are over in 18 months? This website is full of idiots.

"Materialism" is a metaphysical commitment about ontology. It is not, and never has been, "what science says". You can do science just fine without cherished ontological beliefs.
George Toumanoff@GToumanoff

@AdamFrank4 “Is materialism becoming obsolete?” - do these people even read what they write? Why on earth kill the science? Materialism isn’t a choice, but a universal scientific method. It happens cuz we tried everything else and only Materialism answers universal questions. Unbelievable!🧠

@kanair Heres the secret nobody else will tell you: Consciousness is the part of your experience that can exit your body and travel through space and time. Russel Targ, the most credible ESP researcher, look em up. Then you realize why the soul has no mass.

Consciousness research often starts from the hard problem and declares consciousness has no function. But even if phenomenal consciousness does not seem to add new physical causality, the fact that organisms evolved consciousness may still matter. They are actually separate issues. We should ask what consciousness is for. Many say consciousness and intelligence are independent, but I suspect they might be deeply connected.

@serialdotai I'd say its about 50/50 algorithms/math. Knowing all the math in the world wont teach you how a good KV works, or how to balance nonlinearity with equivariance for better spatial awareness. Yet you can develop these intuitions without any math whatsoever.

@fjzeit Youre now starting to understand: the more truth you speak, the more productive your advice, the more niche you become. People would need to actively seek you out. The algorithm only grants you reach when ragebaiting.

apparently, you can post about a highly effective method of getting ongoing quality results from a model with minimum negative impact and get 250 impressions OR you can construct some dumbass post about how AI is taking over and what does "Software Engineer" even mean now and get 180k impressions.

99% of the tweets I’ve seen in support of the draconian arXiv anti-AI measures are made by the *tenured* college professors, for whom the current system has worked incredibly well. And, most shockingly and tellingly IMHO, almost all of them are made in bad faith and using some kind of straw man.
