Beyond the learning, it was a joy to network, exchange ideas, and reconnect with friends, mentors, and partners who continue to work hard for this cause. #EndSkinCancer in #Albinism

Listening to colleagues and allies doing extraordinary work across the world reminded me that progress happens when science, advocacy, and human dignity come together. #Together we can end #SkinCancer in people with #Albinism 🤍

I was honored to be invited to speak at the 1st World Forum on Skin Cancer in Persons with Albinism. Sharing insights on the barriers to prevention and management of skin cancer in PWA, particularly in Africa, was both humbling and empowering. We must #EndSkinCancer in #Albinism

@gwagaphoto Consider it your official dermatologist-approved hydration therapy (for internal use only🤣🤣🤣) I hope you enjoyed it! And that was to show gratitude for all your support and for being a loyal friend 🙏🏾

Blessed are all who have met him and learned from him. I’ll never forget our conversation at Addis Airport in 2018! Such a great man!

[1] Some people can believe in you so much that their words become prophecies! For me, that’s my brother @gwagaphoto 🥹. Now I catch myself saying “ kandi Gwaga yari yarabivuze!" Everything this man spoke over my journey keeps happening , one after another! But guess what! (...)

As she did for many like me, she saw a potential I hadn’t yet recognized in myself and decided to uplift me. From pushing me beyond my comfort zone to mentioning my name at big tables, her support has been life-changing. 🌟

A week ago at the @ICD2025Rome , I attended a talk that left a lasting impact on me — “Inspiring the Next Generation of Future Experts” by Prof Dlova Ncoza. What made it so powerful was not just her incredible achievements, but the way she openly shared her failures too.

The Awareness Week concluded with a roundtable discussion bringing together dermatologists and representatives of albinism associations. Together, we reflected on the outreach activities, exchanged feedback, and a sustainable roadmap moving forward. 🤝 #InclusiveSkinHealth

On the final day of Albinism Awareness Week, Prof Mavura gave a focused teaching session on dermatosurgery, a vital skill in the early detection and treatment of skin cancer among persons with albinism.

This year’s theme, “Demanding our rights: Protect our skin, Preserve our lives,” highlights the urgent need for awareness, prevention, and access to essential healthcare for persons with albinism. While we’ve made encouraging progress, a lot still needs to be done in Burundi!!

Day 1 of the Albinism clinic was mainly dedicated to health education and skin cancer screening for people living with albinism (PWA). We had engaging sessions focused on sun protection and early detection of skin cancers, which remain a major concern for this community.
