Gender disparities in research funding are well documented but hard to assess because of a lack of comprehensive data on grant applicants and awardees. In this paper, we developed the Transparent Reporting Scale (TRS) to assess how well funders report grant data. 2/5

TRS scores were significantly correlated with the Gender Equality Index and GDP of the countries where funders are based, suggesting that collection or publication of funding data may reflect overall commitments to gender equity, and may be limited due to resources. 4/5

The TRS includes 15 criteria spanning 5 domains. We use the TRS to score 39 funders across Europe. The final score was gold, silver or bronze. Only 5 funders received a gold score & many received a silver one, indicating an effort to improve transparency in data reporting. 3/5
