A word to say we have determined where the Poole peregrines are most likely to nest this year. On the ASDA high-rise (Harbour Sail). Not in one of the boxes provided but in a gulley on the flat roof. They now have a gravel tray and the female has been on it. 🤞🤞

Today we installed a new nest box for the Poole peregrines on Harbour Sail (Asda high rise). This is the location I always intended a box to be. North facing with a sheer drop below. Fingers crossed the birds find it and like it. Thanks to the building owners 🙏

And here it is, a new nest box installed on the Asda building as the Peregrines didn’t take interest in the other box last year. Looks like there might even be a camera on it!

Peregrine (likely the male) perching in a girder beneath the balcony this midday, haven't seen one perched there before. In other news regarding the Peregrines something new has occurred but I'll leave it to another account concerned to announce it.

My most recent pic shows that the ringed Peregrine has been around once again. Is there some sort of love triangle going on or something? hmm... Anyway, the ring could not be read yet again annoyingly.

@DorsetStudy Orange 20 came from the New Milton nest, she died at the top balcony at the end of July 2023. I dunno who recovered her body though. Male Blue HF's body blew down after some strong winds at the time so I was able to read the BTO ring which confirmed it was him.

@PPeregrines I was in Poole yesterday and looking at this image the female (below) is particularly dark....most probably the orange ringed bird.

Female peregrine on Harbour Sail (ASDA high-rise) yesterday, sheltering from the rain/wind. Some prey remains.

@mattthesparrow Little owls do fill an otherwise unoccupied niche in the UK. They co-habit without issue across the channel. They just didn't get across when the last ice age ice melted. They should be here, just missed the boat.

Last night I was fortunate to ring all 5 UK Owls (pedants - leave it!). The Little Owls were particularly interesting because two of the three were already ringed... by us! Both of them over 4 years ago!
