@glimberb0 @PoltFan69 The reward mechanism is the level clear screen. The thing to work towards is clearing the hardest levels.
Seeing this screen after working our asses off for it was a bigger reward than any fucking unlockable upgrade

English

GTFO has broken me. I used to be able to somewhat tolerate "progression" in shooters with unlocks and character upgrades etc but me and The Boyz played a couple hours of Far Far West and all we could think was "This sucks just let me play the GAME I don't want to unlock guns and fill up progression bars"
GTFO just gives you all the tools and the fun is the actual game not "progression". Sadly most of the market enjoys battle passes and unlocks etc so I have little hope for more stuff like GTFO in the future.
In the last year it's really shot up to close to the top of my all time games list.

English

@Alex1Mirage @PoltFan69 We have absolutely nearly wiped on levels in order to get lore logs
English

@PoltFan69 Really love that the only grind in this game IS THE LORE. The game really is for the tryhard lore nerd.
English

GTFO is simultaneously the best methodical, planning-based co-op stealth game I've ever played, and the absolute best FULL ADRENALINE EVERYTHING IS FUCKED game I've ever played. If you don't mind spoilers, this is part of our clear of R7D2 youtube.com/watch?v=6ZQ4jO…
Me and Michael are holding back infinite waves of enemies, some of which are fucking invisible and can only be seen via bio-scanner pings, or the shadows they leave when flashlights are on them, while our frontrunner Marcus is doing insanely precise stealth segments to unlock the doors ahead of us so we can all progress, while we've got Matt playing flex and running back and forth to resupply and reinforce as needed.
At the end of it we're running back through the whole level as even more enemies pour in, Michael spots an invisible giant right next to extract that would have potentially downed someone thanks to him always running guns with thermal optics. Then I call out that someone needs to go grab the attention of the Tank that followed us back, Matt immediately goes on an insane hero run dodging everything, Marcus gets clean hits on the Tanks weakspot to take it down, all while me and Michael are trying our best to stop the invisible enemies from getting in too close.
We didn't get any perks that let us do that, or upgrade our weapons and tools to specialize in different roles or grind out fucking battle pass currency to unlock new secondary weapons with 0.5% more damage to Tank tumors in the fog, we just had to learn to work together as an effective team.

This time on Japanese Dawntrail: Their complete nonsense rewrite TL of 連王 to "Dawnservant" blows up in their faces in the funniest way possible youtube.com/live/fwLnfJ_VR…

Nah her and Koana are opposites that are meant to compliment eachother, to work with the whole "United" theme going on.
Wuklamat embodies the 武 (bravery, might, valor) of her father, Koana embodies the 理 (reason, logic) of his father. Put em together and you have the same virtues that their father The United King, has.
English

The interplay between Wuk, Koana, and Zuraal Ja feels awkward, strained even; like the story would have worked better if Wuk and Koana had been one singular character (i.e. Secreted away for political reasons as a child, raised in a cloistered life in the capital and then sent to Sharlya for safety - unbeknownst to her) with a lot of misconceptions about her father's kingdom to clarify as she gets to know everyone better. Then it's a story about the entitled prince and the adopted upstart, and which one is able to humble themselves and serve the greater need of the people. Why else would she and Koana both have near identical backstories?
English

I'll make a larger thread about it probably once I finish 7.0, but so far the characters in JP are all just incredibly endearing and well-written.
As a few snippets of what it's been like, JP Wuklamat constantly sings your praises and says how she's always trying to follow your example. EN Wuklamat hogs all the glory and barely thanks you for shit.
You're treated as a real mentor to her in JP, while in the EN you're treated like a subordinate.
Like right here before her Bakuujaja 1v1. In the JP she says "Don't worry. After traveling this path with you, I'm not the same person I was. I wont lose to someone like him again"
She's directly giving YOU the credit, and throughout the game constantly references how great of a role model and example you are. So she follows that example and does a sickass limit break.
The En she just says she wont lose.

English

@bringithahn I've seen jp speakers react to the jp line. They thought it was a good apology.
I've seen en speakers react to the en line, they thought it was a bad apology.
They are bad at localization
English

@DoublePerfectKO yes that's the point of localization. the way you reacted to the EN line matches how a JP speaker would react to the JP line.
English

Another Dawntrail example of how much they butchered Wuklamat in the TL
This is her apology after the kidnapping bit in JP
あらためて、みんなすまねぇ。 依頼主のアタシが、あっさりさらわれちまうなんて…… こんなヘマはもう二度と踏まねぇからよ。 それとさ、助けに来てくれて……ありがとな!
Which translates to something like
"Everyone, again I'm real sorry. I'm your client, I shouldn't be going off getting kidnapped like that.....it was a dumb mistake and it wont happen again. And..... thanks so much for coming to save me!"
It's a real apology. She takes accountability, says she wont do it again, thanks you.
日本語

@JadonTheEternal Minimizing your actions with a bad joke makes for a bad apology.
English

@DoublePerfectKO It just sounds like youre upset she didn't put herself down, because in both cases she took accountability and said she'd try to avoid it happening again
English

Some people I know who played in JP also felt he was a bit one note, but so far it feels like he's kinda a classic foil to the hero.
His JP title is "The Miracle Son", and yet he's outpaced by wuklamat and koana, doesn't attempt to actually learn or grow through the journey, can't admit when he needs help, and when he can't live up to his fathers legacy, he just breaks.
All 3 of the kings children had really simplistic and naive motivations going into the trials, but only he doesn't actually re-evaluate his own and change.
I wouldn't say he's the most compelling character ever, but as a fairly standard "thematic opposite to the hero" sort of villain, I think he's serviceable.
English

I've been meaning to comb through the JPN dialogue archive with Grok and work out Zoraal Ja's character motivations in 7.0, because in spite of my best efforts everything he did felt incoherent and undercooked. Even 7.1 didn't do very much to clarify his internal turmoil and actions.
Can you speak to that at all?
English

Kururu (which is her real name, in line with the rest of the Lalafell) for sure gets less attention in this part of the story than I'd want, but the scenes that are focusing on her she doesn't feel outshined to me.
And the Wuklamat thing there is really just them screwing up the theme. It's not about "learning their customs" it's about getting to actually "know" people and understand them on a personal level. In the JP she shows a genuine interest in actually understanding the people of Toral, and getting to the root causes of the issues they're facing
It's the thing that makes her a good potential leader. Koana just tries to brute force solutions without actually networking with people or caring about their cultures
English

@DoublePerfectKO Question, are there notable differences between EN and JP Krile? I feel she got her moments stolen in the worst ways.
How different is it when Wuk Lamat tells you to "talk to the locals and learn their customs"? I must say, after the 3rd time it drained my will to play.
English

@whatisthissheet I could easily see it not being everyone's cup of tea. To me this first half of the expac has really felt like a GOOD classic adventure story. There's been some cliches and predictable plot developments, but it's just been incredibly consistently fun
English

@DoublePerfectKO The JP version doesn't sound too impressive either but it still sounds miles better than the localization team's fanfiction mess.
